49ers Ready for Nationals

49ers to Compete in Seven Events at Nationals LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State Track and Field will compete in seven events at the NCAA Championships starting on June 6 in Sacramento, with four of those events being school-record setting marks; sprinter Brent Gray in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, Kim Heinz and Tyson Gray in the javelin, Jennifer Onyeagbako in the discus;, Jill Reynolds in the pole vault, and the women's 4x100-meter relay team of Jessica Branker, Magnolia Howell, Patrice White and Jasmine Winfield. Tyson Gray, who finished third at the West Regional meet after ranking 78th nationally, will start the competition off competing in the javelin qualifiers on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., with the finals being at 7:15 p.m.on Friday. School-record holder and two-time all-region javelin thrower, Kim Heinz, will compete in her second-straight NCAA Championship with qualifying on Thursday at 6 p.m. and the finals on Saturday at 10 a.m. Onyeagbako will compete at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, earning an at-large bid after entering the regional ninth nationally in the discus. The finals are on Friday at 3:15 p.m. Gray will start his national run in the sprints, competing on four straight days. After finishing second in the regional 100-meter, he will run in two rounds of competition on Wednesday (4:40, 6:40 p.m.) and take his regional championship run on Thursday (3:30, 5:20 p.m.) in the 200-meter dash. The finals are 6:15 p.m. on Friday in the 100-meter race and 10:51 a.m. on Saturday in the 200-meter. He holds school records in both events. The women's 4x100-meter relay team, competing in the program's first-ever relay finals, will run on Wednesday at 3:20 p.m. and then again on Friday at 4:40 p.m. They finished second in the West after ranking 84th nationally two weeks ago. They set the school-record at the Big West Championship. Reynolds was a last minute at to the national championship, ranking 23rd nationally with the second-best mark in school-history. |
