Heinz Named Field Athlete of the Week IRVINE, CA-- Senior javelin thrower Kim Heinz (Florence, MT) was named the Big West's Field Athlete of the Week following a 162'8" mark to win of the javelin last week at the Steve Scott Invite. The school-record holder, at 166'6", ranks 16th nationally in the event, and is fifth in the region and first in the Big West. She is the two-time defending conference champion in the javelin. She has also held the school-record in the event for three-straight years. Heinz is also one of just two 49ers all-time, the other being former javelin thrower, Doug Lefler (all in 2004) with three career certificates. Heinz has won the award once in each of the last three seasons. The award was first given out in 2003. This season, LBSU has notched seven weekly awards, highlighted by two each by Brent Gray, Ezra Kwong and Jill Reynolds. One more weekend of the regular season remains for the 49ers, who send Jackie Taylor and Katie Black as their lone representatives at the Big West Mulit-Event Championships this Friday and Saturday in Northridge. Taylor and Black rank third and fourth in the heptathlon, as LBSU will not compete any males in the decathlon. The rest of the championship begins on May 11. |
