Richardson Qualifies for Olympic Trials AZUSA, CA-- Long Beach State All-American Chris Richardson (Downey) tallied a personal-best 7871 points at the Mt. SAC Decathlon, competing unattached, on Thursday to qualify for the U.S Olympic Trials in Eugene, OR in 2008. The Big West Male Field Athlete of the Year is redshirting this season to prepare for a run at the Bejing Olympics. Last year as a junior transfer from Cerritos College, he set the school-record for points (7605), won the Big West decathlon, was named all-conference in the javelin and finished third at the NCAA Championships. During the national championship he also posted the second-longest javelin toss in school-history and became the 49ers first decathlete All-Americans. Long Beach State has had 24 Olympians, including three-time Olympians Dwight Stones (high jump) Francie Larrieu (distances) and Ramona Pagel (throws). Their last Olympian in track and field came in 1992. |
