Strong Debuts for Freitas and Rose

Grey and Freitas Have Stellar Debuts LONG BEACH, CA-- Freshman Alex Freitas and junior transfer Brent Gray both scored reqional qualifying times in their Long Beach State debuts to highlight the 49ers at the Jack Rose Relays. Freitas posted an LBSU freshman record and regional qualifying time in the 800-meter at 1:50.05 beating teammate Mario Cobian, the reigning Big West Champion and previous school-record holder, and won the event. The time was sixth-best overall. Gray set the school-record in the 100-meter (10.29) with a regional qualifying time and also won the 200-meter with a regional qualifying time of 20.92. Javelin throwers Kim Heinz and Alex Shaw also had regional qualifying marks, with Heinz winning the event. Shane Phelan had a personal-best in the 400-meter hurdles, Jessica Branker (11.98) and Patrice White each had personal-best's in the 100-meter races, while Nicole Blalock ran the 10th-fastest time in the 800-meter (2:13.92). |
