Duo Earns Weekly Honor

Duo Named Big West Athletes of the Week; Host Relays Saturday LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State track and field athletes Jill Reynolds (Castaic) and Jesus Santana (Riverside) were each named Big West Athletes of the Week for their performances at the Ben Brown Invitational last Saturday. The 49ers are next in action when they host the 66th Annual Long Beach Relays on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. for track events and 9:30 a.m. for field events. Results for the Jack Rose Relays, named after the 25-year hall of fame head coach of the program, will be available online through Long Beach State's website and also at www.directathletics.com. Reynolds earned the conference honor for the second time in her career in the pole vault after jumping a personal-best 13'1.5" to win the invitational. The reigning Big West Champion was already second all-time in school-history in the pole vault and became just the second 49er ever to clear 13-feet. Santana earned the honor for the first time, running 14:47.40 in the 5000-meter race. The junior college transfer from San Bernardino Valley College, was a Big West qualifier last year.
