Godfrey Named Big West's Best this Week IRVINE, CA-- Long Beach State first baseman Brandon Godfrey (Cypress, CA) raised his season average 221 points thanks to a three-game stretch at Arizona State and was named the Big West Conference's Player of the Week. Gofrey went 10-for-15 against the No. 11-ranked Sun Devils and helped the Dirtbags win two out of three in the desert. This is the first weekly award for the junior first baseman from Los Alamitos High, who came in hitting .150, and proceeded to go 3-for-4 on Friday, added two hits on Saturday before exploding with a career-best five hits on Sunday in the series clincher. As a team, LBSU hit .425 last weekend. He end the weekend batting .371. The Beach moved up in all three major polls, ranking No. 17 in Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America, No. 18 in the Coaches Poll. LBSU (10-5) travel to previously top-25 UCLA (8-9) on Tuesday at 6 p.m., before closing out their seven-game road trip at No. 12-ranked Wichita State (13-4) this weekend for a three-game tilt. |
