Solid Showing at Ben Brown; Reyolds Wins Pole Vault

49ers Have Good Effort at Ben Brown Invitational WALNUT, CA-- Jill Reynolds set a personal-best in her first outdoor pole vault of the season,while the Long Beach State sprints program had a solid effort as well to highlight the 49ers at the Ben Brown Invitational at Mt. SAC on an 80 degree day in Southern California. The 4x100-meter women's team also took home first place in their meet. Reynolds, who already holds the second-best mark in school-history, bettered the mark with a jump of 13'1.5". She is the second athlete ever to jump over 13' in school-history. The 49ers also had a solid showing from its sprints program, as Patrice White missed her personal-best in the 400-meter by .49 with a time of 56.50 for fifth. The trio of Jessica Branker (24.53), Magnolia Howell (24.86) and Miranda Garrido (25.28) all finished in the top-15 in their first outdoor meets of the season, while freshman Alex Goldberg was eighth in the men's race of the 400-meter, at 48.71. In the 400-meter hurdles, three athletes finished in the top-eight, led by Robert Gomez' 54.06 time, which was fourth. Tisha Uwadiale was fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 38'6", just out of the 49er top-10, while Tiana Johnson was fifth with a mark of 38'3.25". Along with the women's relay team, the 4x400-meter "B" teams finished second on the women's side (3:51.04) and fourth on the men's side (3:19.79). |
