LONG BEACH, CA-- Three 49ers scored in double-figures as Long Beach State (15-6, 6-2 Big West) rolled to a convincing 92-64 win over Pacific (8-13, 4-4 Big West) on Saturday evening at the Walter Pyramid.

Long Beach State was solid in all aspects of the game as they shot a season-best .571 (32 of 56) from the field and committed a season-low five turnovers. Defense was key for the 49ers as they forced 16 Pacific turnovers and held the Tigers to .442 (23 of 52) shooting.
Sterling Byrd led the 49ers with 22 points on 8 of 13 shooting and a team-high six rebounds. Aaron Nixon had 16 points and four assists, while Kevin Houston recorded 14 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Anthony Brown led the Tigers with 18 points and six rebounds in the losing effort.

Long Beach State made an impressive 17 of 26 (.654) from the field in the second half, including five of ten three's and 13-of-18 at the free throw line. The 49ers wasted no time in building their 11-point halftime lead as LBSU went on a 14-1 run, capped by a pair of free throws from Dominique Ricks, giving the 49ers a 56-30 lead. The 49ers led by at least 20 the rest of the way as they took a 30-point lead after Travon Free made a layup with 6:46 left to play.

Long Beach State never trailed in the first half as they shot .500 (15 of 30) from the field and only turned the ball over three times. The 49ers jumped out to an 11-3 lead after sinking three shots from behind the arc in the first three minutes of play, with two of them coming from Houston. LBSU took their largest lead of the half at 40-23 after Nixon drained a jumper at the 3:29 mark. The Tigers went on a 6-0 run to close out the half as the 49ers went into the break with an 11-point lead (40-29).

The 49ers got contributions from the entire team as 11 different players scored. Freshman Tim Island had eight points and three rebounds and Travon Free chipped in with six points and four boards in 13 minutes.

Long Beach State returns to action on Thursday, February 8 as they travel to Cal Poly for a 7 pm conference match-up.
