AVCA Accolades Awarded To Crimes, Hasalikova
The pair of middle blockers are both selected to the AVCA West All-Region Team.
Dec. 5, 2007 LONG BEACH -- Seniors Alexis Crimes and Michaela Hasalikova were both honored with selections to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region team as selected by the coaches in the West Region. Crimes was named to the first-team for the fourth consecutive year while Hasalikova earned honorable mention status.
Middle Blocker Alexis Crimes earned first-team honors for the fourth straight season after leading the 49ers in kills and blocks. Averaging 4.48 kills per game and 1.30 blocks per game, Crimes led the 49ers in kills for nearly every match and finished an outstanding four-year career as Long Beach State's all-time leader in block assists, and was third in career kills with 1,758. Crimes joined just four other players nationwide as a four-time honoree.
Michaela Hasalikova capped off a tremendous senior season with an honorable mention selection. One of the team's best hitters, Hasalikova closed out the year with a .322 hitting percentage and was second on the team in blocks. Her play was a key in a first-round NCAA win over UNLV, and she finished the season with 336 kills and 136 blocks. "I believe that Michaela is one of the better players in the country," said head coach Brian Gimmillaro. "I'm very proud that she is being recognized in this way."
Crimes became the first 49er to earn four All-Region selections, passing a number of Long Beach State greats who were picked three times. "Alexis deserves to take her place with all of the other great Long Beach State players," noted Gimmillaro. "Her fourth selection is a testament to her consistency, ability, and what she has meant to this program."
12 players from each of eight regions are chosen as first-team members of the All-Region team. Long Beach State is a member of the West Region, which also includes the remainder of the Big West schools as well as the Mountain West and Western Athletic Conferences.
