Silos Earns Big West Player of the Week Award IRVINE—Long Beach State forward Kim Silos (Ontario) was named the Big West’s Player of the Week for the second time this season after scoring a goal and adding two assists for the Big West Champion 49ers this past week. Silos scored the first of two goals in Sunday's 2-1 victory over UC Santa Barbara and tallied both game-winning assists, one against the Gauchos, and another in the team’s 3-1 victory over Cal Poly last Friday. Silos leads the Big West in overall points with 23, tallying seven goals and nine assists. The red-hot 49ers have won seven of their last nine heading into post-season play. Silos’ nine assists is third-best for a single season at LBSU and the best since the program re-started in 1998. Silos with 23 career assists, is just three behind all-time leader Anette Fernandez (1984-86). The 49ers (13-6-0) will make a run at their first NCAA Tournament berth
this weekend, when they are the second seed facing off against third-seeded
Cal Poly on Friday at 5 p.m. as part of the Big West Tournament in Fullerton. |
