LONG BEACH-- Long Beach State senior defender Amanda Perry (Fresno) was named a second team Academic All-American by CoSIDA paced by a 4.0 GPA as a kinesiology major. Perry is the first LBSU soccer player to be named an Academic All-American.
Perry, one of 50 players at Mauricio Ingrassia's first practice in 2004, played in 67 career games and started in half of them, including a majority of the 2007 season at defender. The 67 career games falls just two games shy of the 49er top-10.
The walk-on was named first team academic all-district this past season, after being named to the second team the previous two seasons. Perry is also a two-time academic All-Big West performer.
During her career, which accumulated in a 45-26-7 record, the 49ers twice set the school-record for shutouts, twice set the school-record for victories and twice won the Big West regular season title. Over the last three years, LBSU's 12, 14 and 13 win seasons were the best in school history. LBSU went 13-7 this past season.
