Inks Three For 2008 LONG BEACH – Head Coach Brian Gimmillaro has announced the signing of three athletes to the 2008 recruiting class for women’s volleyball during the fall signing period. The fall class is finalized with the signing of Catherine Highmark, Jocelyn Neely and Caitlin Ledoux. “I’m very pleased with this group,” remarked Gimmillaro. “They are good athletes, good volleyball players and come from great families. They possess all of the qualities to become outstanding student-athletes.” Setter Catherine Highmark comes to the class out of Chaparral High School, where the 5-8 senior helped the Firebirds win three state titles. “I really think that Cat is one of the best setters in this recruiting class,” said Gimmillaro. “Given time and experience, she should be a top collegiate setter.” Joining Highmark are two Southern California products with a long history of competing together; Jocelyn Neely and Caitlin Ledoux. The pair spent last summer playing in the local events on the AVP Beach Volleyball tour as well as with the USA juniors in beach volleyball. Neely prepped with the La Habra Highlanders, where the 6-1 outside hitter averaged 3.9 kills per game and 4.0 digs per game. “Jocelyn is a very quick, explosive and aggressive athlete,” said Gimmillaro. “She’ll fit in nicely with the style of volleyball that we play.” Rounding out the group is Ledoux, an outside hitter from Phelan, Calif. As a junior, Ledoux was named the Daily Press Girls’ Volleyball Athlete of the Year for her play at Serrano High School. Ledoux did not play high school volleyball as a senior, but competed in beach volleyball as well as indoors with the Cal Juniors club team. “Caitlin is a very accomplished player,” commented Gimmillaro. “Her variety of skills will benefit our program immediately.” All three players will be eligible to play with the 49ers for the 2008
season.
