Volleyball Honored With Six All-Conference Selections Click Here For Full Team (.pdf) LONG BEACH – Long Beach State had six players honored for their work this season in the All-Big West teams as announced by the conference today. The 49ers closed the Big West season with a 14-2 conference record, finishing in second place. The 49ers finished with three players on the first-team, the most of any team other than conference champion Cal Poly. Leading the way was Alexis Crimes, who became the fourth player in Big West history to be named to the first-team all four years in volleyball. Crimes finished the season second in the conference in both hitting percentage and kills per game, and ranked in the top 10 in blocks as well. Joining her on the first-team were senior Michaela Hasalikova and junior Quincy Verdin. Verdin ranked in the top 10 in kills per game this season while placing second on the team, and Hasalikova ranks sixth in the league in hitting and in the top 10 for blocking. Nicole Vargas earned an honorable mention for her work as a setter for the second consecutive year, and was joined by libero Talaya Whitfield as an honorable mention. Outside hitter Ashley Lee was selected for the All-Freshman team, rounding out the honors for Long Beach State. Outside hitter Kylie Atherstone was named Big West Player of the Year after sharing the honor with Crimes last season. The Cal Poly star joined Coach of the Year Jon Stevenson as Mustang honorees after winning the conference championship. UC Irvine's Kari Pestolesi was chosen as the Freshman of the Year. The Big West All-Conference teams are chosen from voting by each of the conference's head coaches.
