·Beach 1-2 On Season
Long Beach State picked up its first win of the season with a 66-61 overtime win over Idaho State on Saturday at the Walter Pyramid. The 49ers are 1-2 on the season and play at Pepperdine on Wednesday evening. The 49ers were 24-8 last season and won the Big West regular season and tournament titles. Pepperdine is 0-4 on the year after dropping its home opener on Saturday to Cal State Northridge, 97-89. Washington is 4-0 on the season after an 82-68 home win over Eastern Washington on Sunday. The Huskies head to New York City for the Pre-Season NIT this week. They will face texas A&M on Wednesday. Also in the NIT are Syracuse and Ohio State. The 49ers game at Washington will be televised live on FSN Northwest.

·Career Record Of 171-125 In 10 Years
Dan Monson (Idaho, 1985) is 1-2 (.333) in his first season as the head coach at Long Beach State. Monson has compiled a 171-125 (.577) record his 11th year as a Division I head coach. He was 52-17 (.754) in two years at Gonzaga, leading the Bulldogs to the Elite Eight in 1999. In eight years at Minnesota he compiled a 118-106 (.527) mark with five post-season appearances.

The 49ers trail in their series with Pepperdine by a 15-6 count. Long Beach snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Waves last season, winning 95-90 on December 7 in Long Beach. Long Beach State and Washington will be meeting for the first time in school history in men's basketball.

The 49ers picked up their first win of the season on Saturday with a 66-61 overtime win over Idaho State at the Walter Pyramid. Donovan Morris led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds in 42 minutes of action. Brian Freeman had nine points, five rebounds and three assists and scored the tying basket with 11 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime. In the OT period the 49ers scored the first five points to take a 61-56 lead. After ISU pulled to 62-61, Freeman scored with 0:19 to give Long Beach a cushion. The 49ers were 24-29 (.828) at the free throw line and recorded a season-high 12 offensive rebounds and eight steals.
PEPPERDINE WAVE FACTS

The Pepperdine Waves are 0-4 on the season after dropping all three games last weekend at the Oregon World Vision Invitational and then losing their home opener to CS Northridge, 97-89. Freshman Tyrone Shelley had a career-high 34 points for the Waves and Daniel Johnson added 13. The Waves were 10-35 from three-point range and committed 26 turnovers. CSUN shot .507 (35-69) from the field. On the year Shelley is averaging 16.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Freshman center Daniel Johnson is averaging 15.0 points per game and fellow freshman, Malcolm Thomas checks in at 12.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. The Waves are averaging 75.0 points per game, but are allowing 87.8 points per outing and are shooting just .351 from the field and .246 (32-130) from three-point range. They have been out-rebounded 49.8 to 39.8.

·Huskies Competing At Pre-Season NIT In NYC
The Washington Huskies are 4-0 on the season and are heading to New York City this week to compete in the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off Tournament. Washington will take on Texas A&M in one semifinal on Wednesday evening at Madison Square Garden. Also in the field are Syracuse and Ohio State. On Sunday the Huskies defeated Eastern Washington 82-68 in Seattle. Junior Jon Brockman led the way with 26 points and eight rebounds while Justin Dentmon had 16 points and seven assists. On the year, Brockman is averaging 23.0 points and 11.7 rebounds per game while shooting .560 from the field. Dentmon checks in at 11.7 points per outing and Joel Smith is the third Husky in double digits at 10.0 points per game. Washington is averaging 84.3 points per game and shooting .492 from the field and .405 (17-42) from three-point range. UW opponents are averaging just 64.0 points per outing.

Long Beach State is 10-32 all-time against Pacific-10 Conference teams. Records against Pac-10 teams: Arizona 0-3; Arizona State 2-2; California 0-2; Oregon 0-1; Oregon State 2-2; Stanford 0-3; UCLA 0-11; USC 5-7; Washington 0-0; Washington State 1-1. Last season the 49ers lost at UCLA (88-58) and at USC (79-61). Long Beach has lost 12 consecutive games to Pac-10 teams. TRAVELING FAR AND WIDE
·Beach To Fly Over 14,000 Miles
The 49ers will hit the road for some big trips this season. After opening at home against BYU, Long Beach takes its first plane flight of the year, to Bozeman, Montana, to take on Montana State. The 49ers also take to the air when they travel to Seattle, Washington; St. Louis, Missouri; Honolulu, Hawai'i; and Berkeley, California. Plus, there could be another trip in February once the ESPNU Bracket Buster games are announced. In the non-conference portion of the schedule (November & December), the 49ers will travel over 14,000 miles.
MORRIS RECORDS DOUBLE-DOUBLE
·Season-High 20 Points vs. Idaho State
After scoring 14 points on Tuesday at Montana State, junior guard Donovan Morris had a big game in the 49ers win over Idaho State. He tallied a career-high (at LBSU) 20 points and added 10 rebounds, for his first double-double as a collegiate player. Morris was a perfect 11-11 at the free throw line and added two assists in his 42 minutes of action. Morris, who has hit 10 rebounds twice this season, leads the team in rebounding at 7.3 per outing and in scoring at 12.0 points per game. He is shooting .895 (17-19) at the free throw line.
FREEMAN ANOTHER SOLID OUTING
·10 Points and 7 Rebounds at MSU
Junior Brian Freeman has put together back-to-back strong outings for the 49ers. On Tuesday at Montana State he finished with season-high's of 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes of action. In Saturday's win over Idaho State he had nine points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Freeman is currently averaging 7.0 points and a 5.3 rebounds per game while shooting .571 (8-14) from the field.
WILLIAMS RECORDS SEASON-HIGH'S
·7 Points and 7 Rebounds vs. ISU
Junior Cornel Williams, in just his second game of the season, recorded seven points and seven rebounds in 28 minutes of action in the 49ers win over Idaho State. Williams missed the 49ers exhibition game vs. San Francisco State and the opener vs. BYU with back spasms. He saw his first action on Tuesday at Montana State playing 11 minutes (4 points, 1 rebounds). Saturday vs. the Bengals he came off the bench and provided a defensive spark for the 49ers grabbing seven defensive rebounds.
GANT IMPRESSIVE IN WIN
·4 Assists and No Turnovers
Junior Artis Gant finished Saturday's game with seven points and four assists in 28 minutes, but the impressive stat for him was zero turnovers. Gant, who was 3-3 at the free throw line in the game, came up with a big play in overtime. With the 49ers leading 58-56, he converted on a three-point play at 3:40 to give LBSU a 61-56 lead. He then had an assist on Brian Freeman's lay-up with 19 seconds left sealing the victory. Gant is currently averaging 6.0 points and 2.3 assists per game.
CLADY PERFECT FROM FIELD
·Season-High 5 Points vs. ISU
Junior Maurice Clady played just seven minutes in Saturday's win over Idaho State, but he had an outstanding game. He finished with a season-best five points, adding two rebounds and two steals. Clady was 1-1 from the field (a 3-pointer) and 2-2 at the free throw line. The points are the first in three games this season for the diminutive guard from San Diego.
