Long Beach State is 0-2 on the young season and will be looking for its first win of the season when they host Idaho State on Saturday afternoon (4 pm) in the Walter Pyramid. The 49ers were 24-8 last season and won the Big West regular season and tournament titles. Idaho State is 0-2 on the year after a 90-69 loss at BYU on Wednesday evening. Pepperdine is 0-3 on the year after dropping all three games last weekend at the Oregon World Vision Invitational in Eugene, Oregon.

·Career Record Of 170-125 In 10 Years
Dan Monson (Idaho, 1985) is 0-2 in his first season as the head coach at Long Beach State. Monson has compiled a 170-125 (.576) record his 11th year as a Division I head coach. He was 52-17 (.754) in two years at Gonzaga, leading the Bulldogs to the Elite Eight in 1999. In eight years at Minnesota he compiled a 118-106 (.527) mark with five post-season appearances.

Long Beach State trails in its series with Idaho State by a 3-2 count. The last meeting was on December 28, 1981 in Pocatello, Idaho, a 79-72 Bengal triumph. The 49ers trail in their series with Pepperdine by a 15-6 count. Long Beach snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Waves last season, winning 95-90 on December 7 in Long Beach.

The 49ers played a strong first half, leading 37-32 at the intermission, thanks to .636 (14-22) shooting from the field. But in the second half the 49ers went cold, shooting only .308 (8-26) from the field and ended up dropping a 74-56 decision at Montana State. Donovan Morris led the 49ers with a season-high 14 points, Brian Freeman had 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists off the bench. Brandon Johnson and Artis Gant both tallied nine points. The 49ers committed just 12 turnovers in the contest, but were out-rebounded by the taller Bobcats 33-to-23. MSU shot .630 (17-27) from the field in the second half and out-scored the 49ers 42-19 to earn the victory.

Idaho State is 0-2 on the season with both losses coming on the road. The Bengals opened the year with a 58-43 loss at Iowa on November 9 and this past Wednesday they fell at BYU, 90-69. ISU is coming off a 13-17 season in 2006-07 and a fifth place tie in the Big Sky Conference at 8-8. In the Iowa defeat, Chron Tatum and Lucas Steijn led the way with 10 points apiece. Matt Stucki added nine points. The Bengals shot just .327 (16-49) from the field and were 1-20 (.050) from three-point range. Against BYU, Tatum had a season-high 20 points and Amorrow Morgan added 13 points. The Bengals shot .434 (23-53) from the field, but committed 17 turnovers and allowed the Cougars a .525 (31-59) field goal percentage. Tatum is the Bengals top scoring threat, checking in at 15.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. ISU is averaging 56.0 points per game and shooting .382 from the field.

The Pepperdine Waves are 0-3 on the season after dropping all three games last weekend at the Oregon World Vision Invitational. The Waves fell to Oregon (100-70), Western Michigan (70-65) and Pacific (84-76). They are at home this Saturday when they host Cal State Northridge at Firestone Fieldhouse. The 49ers visit next Wednesday. On the year freshman center Daniel Johnson is averaging 15.7 points per game. He had a season-high 19 points against Pacific. Fellow freshman, Malcolm Thomas checks in at 13.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game and another freshman, Tyrone Shelley, is averaging 10.0 points and 5.3 boards per game. The Waves are averaging 70.3 points per game, but are allowing 84.7 points per outing and are shooting just .333 (68-204) from the field and .232 (22-95) from three-point range. They have been out-rebounded 49.7 to 38.7.

TRAVELING FAR AND WIDE
·Beach To Fly Over 14,000 Miles
The 49ers will hit the road for some big trips this season. After opening at home against BYU, Long Beach takes its first plane flight of the year, to Bozeman, Montana, to take on Montana State. The 49ers also take to the air when they travel to Seattle, Washington; St. Louis, Missouri; Honolulu, Hawai'i; and Berkeley, California. Plus, there could be another trip in February once the ESPNU Bracket Buster games are announced. In the non-conference portion of the schedule (November & December), the 49ers will travel over 14,000 miles.
OFFENSE LOOKS BETTER
·37 Points in First Half at MSU
After scoring just 34 points in its opening game against Brigham Young on November 10, the 49ers put up 37 points in the first half at Montana State. Long Beach shot .636 (14-22) from the field in the half and led by as many as 12 points (30-18). The 49ers though went cold in the second half, shooting just .308 (8-26) and falling 74-56.
MORRIS HAS BIG OUTING
·Season-High 14 Points at MSU
After struggling in the opener against BYU, junior guard Donovan Morris had a strong game at Montana State on Tuesday. Morris led the 49ers with 14 points, adding two rebounds, two assists and a career-best four steals. He was 6-8 at the free throw line. In the opener, he had just two points against BYU. Morris is averaging 8.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game to lead the 49ers this season.
JOHNSON EARNS FIRST START
·Season-High 9 Points at MSU
Junior forward Brandon Johnson started his first game as a 49er this past Tuesday at Idaho State and responded with a season-high nine points, adding two rebounds and two assists. He played 29 minutes in the contest. Johnson had four points and four rebounds in the opener against BYU, playing 20 minutes off the bench. Johnson is currently averaging 6.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
PLATER PLAYS WELL
·Season-High 8 Points at MSU
Freshman point guard Greg Plater had a much better outing on Tuesday at Montana State. Plater had a season-high eight points in 17 minutes, shooting 2-of-4 from three point range. Plater had three points and five turnovers in the opener against BYU. Plater is averaging 5.5 points per game and is 3-8 (.375) from three-point range.
FREEMAN NOTCHES CAREER-HIGH'S
·10 Points and 7 Rebounds at MSU
Junior Brian Freeman had an excellent outing on Tuesday at Montana State finishing with season-high's of 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes of action. Freeman is currently averaging 6.0 points and a team-best 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting .500 (5-10) from the field.
