FLYING TO WASHINGTON: The 49ers traveling to Colorado are senior Katy Barrett, sophomore Brenda Chhuor and Erin Cylke and freshman Kylie Kimura and Lindsey McAtee.
COACH EWART ON EDEAN IHLANFELDT: "Only two players have played the course before so we are a bit inexperienced for this difficult layout," said 49er Head Coach Sue Ewart. "Typically the scores are very high with last years average round 79.5, in decent weather. This year the weather is predicted to be miserable, rain and cold. However, this course is also the best from a players stand point as every shot has its challenges."
THE COACH: A member of the United States Golf Association Rules of Golf Committee, Sue Ewart is entering her 12th season as the head coach of the 49er women's golf team ... in 2006 the 49ers received their first-ever at-large bid to the NCAA Championships .. the 49ers finished second at the 2006 Big West Championships ... this past year, 2007, the 49ers came in second place at the Big West Championships and junior Kay Hoey was selected as the Big West Golfer of the Year. Hoey advanced to the NCAA Championships where she tied for 46th place, earning second team All-America honors.
LAST OUTING: The 49ers finished in 13th place at the Heather Farr/CU Memorial Invitational at the Omni Interlocken Resort Golf Course ... LBSU shot a 312 in the third round to finish with a score of 921. Host Colorado won the team title with an 885, followed by Oklahoma (889) and Idaho (890) ... on the individual side, LBSU senior Katy Barrett shot an eight-over 224 (75-73-76) to tie for 20th place overall ... sophomore Brenda Chhuor shot a 233 (80-77-76) to tie for 49th place. The overall winner was Portland State's Kayla Morinaga who shot a two-under 214 (74-69-71) to claim medalist honors. Dominique Pytlewski of Colorado took second with a 216 (71-70-75).
EWART ON COLORADO: "Colorado was good except for the final round where we back peddled a bit," said 49er Head Coach Sue Ewart. "I'm sure the girls are eager to prove their stuff but the competition is very stiff at The Edean and they will have to play very well to break the top 10."
NEXT UP FOR THE BEACH: The 49ers will next be in action on Monday, Oct. 29 through Wednesday, Oct. 31, as they travel to Las Vegas, Nev. for the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
