THE RECORDS
·49ers Have Won Nine In A Row
Long Beach State improved to 11-4 overall and 2-0 in the Big West after sweeping a pair of home games to open the conference season. Thursday the 49ers defeated UC Santa Barbara 101-65 and on Saturday then defeated Cal Poly 77-70. Long Beach has won nine games in a row. The 49ers have just one game this week, Saturday night at Cal State Northridge. The Matadors are 7-7 overall and 1-2 in the Big West. They lost at CS Fullerton on Thursday (76-72) and won at UC Riverside on Saturday (67-60).

·16-7 Last Two Seasons In February And March
Larry Reynolds (UC Riverside, 1976) is 50-79 (.388) in his fifth year as the head coach at Long Beach State. Overall, Reynolds is 160-114 (.583) in his ninth year as a collegiate head coach.

·49ers Lead CS Northridge, 24-16
The 49ers lead their series with CS Northridge by a 24-16 count. Long Beach won both meetings last season snapping a six-game losing skid to the Matadors. The 49ers won 84-73 in Long Beach and 101-80 at Northridge.
BEACH RALLIES PAST CAL POLY
·Johnson Scores Career-High 26 Points
Senior Kejuan Johnson scored a career-high 26 points and Kevin Houston added 14 as the 49ers rallied from a second half deficit to defeat Cal Poly 77-70 on Saturday evening. Johnson was 5-6 from three-point range as the 49ers were 9-19 overall from long-range. Trailing 60-56 with 10:42 remaining, the 49ers held the Mustangs scoreless for over four minutes. Still trailing 64-63 with 5:44 left, Houston scored the next seven points for the 49ers helping Long Beach regain the lead 69-66. Four free throws later the lead was 73-66 and the 49ers held on from there. Dominique Ricks had a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with seven points and Aaron Nixon had 12 points and seven rebounds. The 49ers out-rebounded the Mustangs 44-39.
BEACH POUNDS UCSB
·Nixon Scores Career-High 35 Points
Aaron Nixon scored a career-high 35 points, hitting 7-of-9 three-pointers, in a 101-65 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Thursday night. Kejuan Johnson chipped in with 15 points, 5 rebounds 4 assists and 5 steals, while Sterling Byrd had 11 points. Long Beach shot .545 (36-66) from the field and .515 (17-33) from three-point range. The 17 made three's tied a school-record. The 49ers registered season-high's in points (101), made three's (17), attempted three's (33) and assists (24). The 49ers led wire-to-wire in the contest jumping to a 11-2 lead in the first three minutes of the contest. That lead grew to 27 points, 42-15, with 4:17 remaining before the Gauchos cut it to 50-27 at the half. The lead quickly grew to 30 points in the second half, with the biggest lead by The Beach being 40 points (101-61) at 1:22.
NIXON NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK
·Second Honor This Season
Aaron Nixon was selected on Monday as the Big West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season. Nixon scored a career-high 35 points, including hitting seven three-pointers, last Thursday against UCSB. He averaged 23.5 points per game in the two wins last week and shot 9-16 from three-point range.
CS NORTHRIDGE FACTS
·Matadors Pick Up First Big West Win
Cal State Northridge is 7-7 overall and 1-2 in the Big West. Saturday night they picked up their first league win with a 67-60 win at UC Riverside. Terrell Jones led the Matadors with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Rob Haynes and Jonathan Heard each tallied 10 points. CSUN out-rebounded the Highlanders 47-25 as three players hit double digits in rebounding. On the year, Heard leads the team at 14.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Calvin Chitwood is second at 13.2 points per game. The Matadors are averaging 79.1 points per game and shooting .470 from the field. CSUN opponents are averaging 77.4 points per game and shooting .452. CSUN leads the Big West in rebounding margin with a +6.6 (37.5-30.9).
OFFENSIVE OUTBURST
·49ers Hit 101 Points Vs. UCSB
The 49ers hit 100 points for the first time this season, racking up 101 points in the win last Thursday over UCSB. Last year the 49ers hit the century mark three times en route to averaging an NCAA-best 83.3 points per game. Long Beach is currently averaging 73.7 points per game, but in its last four games that number jumps to 85.3 ppg.
THE BEACH ON TV
·Next TV Game On Jan. 18 vs. CS Fullerton
The 49ers will be on television a total of seven times during the regular season, with the opportunity of five more telecasts making the airwaves. The next televised game will be on Thursday, January 18 when the 49ers host CS Fullerton on KVMD. The game will be televised live on FSN Prime Ticket. Long Beach is currently 1-1 on TV this year.
THREE-POINT STREAK
·158 Games And Counting
The 49ers have connected on at least on three-pointer in every game Larry Reynolds has coached at Long Beach State (129 games). The 49ers have hit at least one three-pointer in 158 consecutive games, dating back to the 2001-02 season. The last time Long Beach State didn't hit a three in a game was in the 2001-02 season opener against Western Michigan (11/15/01) where The Beach was 0-9. Last year the 49ers finished 21st in the nation averaging 8.53 made three's per game. Their 256 three's in 2005-06 were a new school record, shattering the old mark of 200.

·Shoot .515 vs. Gauchos
The 49ers are starting to find their rhythm from beyond the three-point line. In the win at UC Davis (Dec. 28) the 49ers shot a then season-best .476 (10-21) from long-range. Last Thursday night against UCSB the 49ers hit .515 (17-33) of its three's. The 17 made three's tied a school-record. Saturday vs. Cal Poly they hit at a .474 (9-19) clip. In its last five games the 49ers are 52-117 (.444) from three-point range, hitting double digits in made three's in three of the last five outings (11 at LMU, 10 at UC Davis, 17 vs. UCSB). Overall the 49ers are shooting .344 (112-326) from three-point range on the year. Last year Long Beach connected on .355 (256-721) of its long-range attempts.
ASSISTS VS. TURNOVERS
·More Assists Than TO's in Two Consecutive Games
For the second consecutive game, and the third time in the last four outings, the 49ers had more assists than turnovers in a game. Saturday The Beach had 16 assists and 10 turnovers vs. Cal Poly. Thursday vs. UCSB they had a season-high 24 assists to 11 turnovers. In its last four games the 49ers are averaging 16.0 assists per game compared to 11.0 turnovers. Eight times this year the 49ers have had more turnovers than assists in a game, but that has only occurred once (Manhattan, 9 ast, 14 to) in the past six games.
NIXON GOES FOR 35
·Third 30-Plus Game In 49er Career
Senior Aaron Nixon put up a career-high 35 points on Thursday vs. UCSB, his third 30-plus outing as a 49er. Last year at UC Davis (2/25) he scored 33 points and against CS Fullerton in the Big West Tournament quarterfinals he scored 31 points. The 35 point outing tied for 17th-best on the LBSU single game chart. The school-record for points in a game is 45, set by Ed Ratleff vs. Saint Mary's on December 10, 1970.
LIGHTNING DOES STRIKE TWICE
·Nixon Has Two Game-Winners To Credit
49er senior guard Aaron Nixon has proven that lightning can strike twice. Nixon has knocked down two game-winning three-point shots at the buzzer to lift Long Beach State to victories. The first came on March 10, 2006 in the semi-finals of the Big West Tournament as he knocked down a three from the far corner lifting the 49ers to a 75-73 victory. The latest heroics came on December 22, 2006 at Loyola Marymount as he hit a 35-foot shot at the buzzer to lift Long Beach to a 66-65 victory.
NINE IN A ROW
·Beach Allowing 66.8 ppg
The 49ers are riding a nine-game winning streak, the longest under Head Coach Larry Reynolds. Last year the 49ers had a seven-game winning streak (which was ended by Pacific in the Big West Tournament Championship game). During the nine-game streak the 49ers are allowing just 66.8 points per game, holding two opponents to 55 points or less. The 49ers have averaged 79.0 points per game in that same span.
WIN STREAK
·Tenth-Best In History
The current nine-game win streak is tied for 10th best in 49er history. The last time the 49ers won nine games in a row was during the 1989-90 campaign under Joe Harrington. The streak ran from Feb. 12 through March 10. The streak ended on March 11 with a 92-74 loss to UNLV in the Big West Tournament. The school-record streak is 19 games set during the 1969-70 season under Jerry Tarkanian.
HOUSTON RANKS NO. 5
·Moves Ahead Of Lucious Harris
Senior point guard Kevin Houston (Highland) has recorded a team-high 65 assists this season and has jumped to the No. 5 spot on the 49er career chart for assists with 349. He moved past Lucious Harris into the number five spot. Currently standing in the No. 4 spot is Ed Ratleff with 410 assists.
MORE ON HOUSTON
·Outstanding Assist-to-Turnover Ratio
Senior guard Kevin Houston had accumulated a team-high 65 assists this season compared to just 41 turnovers. But, in his last six games he has 28 assists and just eight turnovers. In Thursday's win over UCSB he had seven assists and just one turnover. Houston is currently third in the Big West at 4.33 assists per game and third in assist/turnover ratio at 1.59.
LAST YEAR AGAINST THE MATADORS
·49ers Sweep Matadors
Last year the 49ers swept two games from the Matadors. On January 15 the 49ers won 84-73 in Long Beach and on February 2 they prevailed 101-80 at CSUN. In the first outing, Aaron Nixon had 22 points and Jibril Hodges 19 as Long Beach raced to a 49-31 halftime lead en route to the victory. The 49ers were 25-30 at the free throw line and forced 21 turnovers. Thomas Shewmake led CSUN with 14 points and 10 rebounds. At CSUN, Hodges scored 27 points and Kejuan Johnson added 20 points and six rebounds in the 101-80 win. The 49ers were 10-23 from three-point range and 21-25 at the line. Long Beach led 49-29 at the half. Jonathan Heard led CSUN with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
JOHNSON'S RETURN
·Missed 3 Games Due To Broken Nose
Senior guard Kejuan Johnson, who missed three games (UCLA, Temple, UMBC) due to a broken nose suffered on November 22, got the o.k. to practice and play on Monday, December 4. Since that time he has started in the past eight games and has been playing outstanding basketball. During that span he is averaging 16.4 points, and 4.0 assists per game. He has scored in double digits in every game, including a career-best 26 points this past Saturday against Cal Poly. His first game back was on December 7 vs. Pepperdine where he finished with 15 points, adding five rebounds and six assists.
DOUBLING UP
·Six Players In Double Digits
In the win at UC Davis (12/28) the 49ers had six players hit for double digits, a season-high. Last year the 49ers had one game where they had seven players tally double digits, and that was on February 18 at Manhattan (Hawkins 25, Houston 17, Johnson 16, Hodges 14, Darby 13, Nixon 11, Dawson 10). They had six players hit that mark on March 2 in the home win over UC Riverside. Four times this season the 49ers had four players score in double digits (Manhattan, at San Jose State, Pepperdine, vs. San Jose State).
SWEET CHARITY
·Eight Strong Outings At The Line
The 49ers have shot a combined .749 (140-187) at the free throw line in its last eight games. They shot a season-best .818 (27-3) in the win over Manhattan and hit .800 (12-15) last Thursday vs. UCSB. The 49ers have shot .710 or better in six of its last eight outings. In its first seven games of the year the 49ers were shooting just .586 (82-140) at the line. Now they stand at .679.
BLOCK PARTY
·Season-High 9 Blocks at UMBC
The 49ers had a season-high nine blocked shots in the win at UMBC. The nine blocks was three off the school-record of 12 set on December 1, 1998 vs. CS Dominguez Hills. Individually, Mark Dawson had a career-high tying six blocks in the contest. The school-record of seven blocks, was set by Terrance O'Kelley against Nevada on January 10, 1994.
ROAD WINS
·Four True Road Wins This Year
The 57-53 win at Maryland-Baltimore County (Dec. 3) was the first "true" road win for the 49ers this year. They followed that up with a 76-67 win at San Jose State, a 66-65 win at Loyola Marymount, and an 89-75 win at UC Davis, improving their mark to 4-3 on the road. The 49ers are 1-1 on neutral sites (3-0 at home). Last year the 49ers lost their first six road games before they downed Cal Poly 79-66 on January 9. Long Beach went 8-1 in true road games from January 9 through March 4 of last season, finishing 8-7 on the road and 2-1 at neutral sites (Big West Tournament).
DEFENSIVE STATS
·Opponents Shooting .416 From Field
UC Davis was the first,and only, 49er opponent this season to shoot .500 or better from the field. The Aggies shot .500 (25-50) overall. The 49ers have held six opponents below .400 and three more below .450. In the last nine games opponents are shooting just .349 (65-186) from long-range and .415 (223-537) overall from the field.
HOME COOKING
·Beach 6-0 At Home This Year
The 49ers are 6-0 at home this season and have won their last seven games (dating back to last season) at the Walter Pyramid. Long Beach is averaging 82.7 points per game and home while allowing 68.5. Since February of 2005, the 49ers are 20-4 at home. Overall in the Walter Pyramid, Long Beach State is 108-58 (.651). The 100th home win came on February 15, 2006 vs. CS Fullerton.

·49ers Sign Three
The 49ers signed three players in the early signing period in November. Signing with The Beach were: Brandon Johnson (F, 6-8, 210, Vancouver, WA, Lamar CC, Mountain View HS), Greg Russell (G, 5-6, 170, Santa Cruz, CA, West Valley JC, Santa Cruz HS) and Bryan Emanuel (G, 6-3, 185, Bellflower, CA, Mayfair HS). Russell led West Valley to a 33-4 mark and an appearance in the State JC Championship Game. He averaged 7.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per outing. Emanuel is a senior at Mayfair High School where he was a first team All-Suburban League selection last season after averaging 11.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Johnson averaged 11.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game at Lamar (CO) CC last season.
