THE RECORDS
·49ers Look To Regroup At Home
Long Beach State fell to 11-5 overall and 2-1 in the Big West after a 90-83 loss at Cal State Northridge on Saturday night. The loss snapped a nine-game win streak for the 49ers. Long Beach will be home for two games this week, hosting first place Cal State Fullerton (13-1, 4-1) on Thursday night and then hosting UC Riverside (3-15, 0-5) on Saturday. Both games begin at 7 pm, Thursday's game vs. the Titans will be televised live on KVMD.

BEACH FALLS AT NORTHRIDGE
·Matadors Shoot .536 From Field
The 49ers saw their nine-game win streak snapped on Saturday at Cal State Northridge as the Matadors shot .536 (30-56) from the field and earned a 90-83 win over the 49ers. Jonathan Heard led CSUN with 24 points. Kejuan Johnson led Long Beach with 23 points and Sterling Byrd had 18 points and eight rebounds. The 49ers shot .467 from the field, but were 10-32 from three-point range and just 17-27 at the free throw line. CSUN out-rebounded the 49ers 37-27 and shot .852 (23-27) at the charity stripe. CSUN led throughout, as the 49ers played catch-up. The Matadors led 45-31 at the half before the 49ers rallied to cut the deficit to five points twice, the final time 61-56 with 8:01 remaining. Leading 75-68 with 4:15 left, the Matadors went on an 11-3 run to grab an 86-71 lead at 2:14. Long Beach cut the deficit to 87-83 at 0:16, but CSUN hit three of four free throws to close out the game.
CS FULLERTON FACTS
·Titans In First Place
Cal State Fullerton is 13-3 overall and in first place in the Big West Conference at 4-1. The Titans defeated UC Riverside at home last week in its lone contest, 98-58. Justin Burns led CSUF with 19 points and 14 rebounds and Marcus Crenshaw added 17 points off the bench. The Titans have six players averaging in double digits, led by senior guard Bobby Brown at 20.7 ppg. Scott Cutley checks in at 15.0 points and a team-best 9.0 rebounds per game and Frank Robinson is third at 12.2 points per game. As a team the Titans are averaging 86.6 points per game and are shooting .479 from the field and .392 (146-372) from three-point range. Fullerton is allowing 73.4 points per game.
UC RIVERSIDE FACTS
·Highlanders Looking For First Big West Win
The Highlanders are 3-15 overall and 0-5 in the Big West Conference. They lost at San Diego on Wednesday (78-62) and at CS Fullerton on Saturday, 98-58. Riverside has lost 13 games in a row. Against Fullerton, Chris Johnson scored 9 points and Henrik Thomsen added 10. The Highlanders shot just .294 (20-68) from the field and were 5-25 from three-point range. Johnson tallied a career-high 25 points in the loss at USD. On the year, Justin Bell is averaging 11.4 points per game while shooting .368 (46-125) from three-point range. Larry Cunningham checks in at 10.3 points per outing and Thomsen is third at 9.2 points per game. UCR is averaging 62.3 points per game and allowing 71.4.
OFFENSIVE OUTBURST
·49ers Hit 101 Points Vs. UCSB
The 49ers hit 100 points for the first time this season, racking up 101 points in the win over UCSB. Last year the 49ers hit the century mark three times en route to averaging an NCAA-best 83.3 points per game. Long Beach is currently averaging 74.3 points per game, but in its last five games that number jumps to 84.8 ppg. In Big West Conference games the 49ers are averaging 87.0 points per outing, tops in the league.

·Next TV Game On Jan. 18 vs. CS Fullerton
The 49ers will be on television a total of seven times during the regular season, with the opportunity of five more telecasts making the airwaves. The next televised game will be on Thursday, January 18 when the 49ers host CS Fullerton on KVMD. Long Beach is currently 1-1 on TV this year.

·159 Games And Counting
The 49ers have connected on at least on three-pointer in every game Larry Reynolds has coached at Long Beach State (130 games). The 49ers have hit at least one three-pointer in 159 consecutive games, dating back to the 2001-02 season. The last time Long Beach State didn't hit a three in a game was in the 2001-02 season opener against Western Michigan (11/15/01) where The Beach was 0-9. Last year the 49ers finished 21st in the nation averaging 8.53 made three's per game. Their 256 three's in 2005-06 were a new school record, shattering the old mark of 200.

·Shoot .515 vs. Gauchos
The 49ers are starting to find their rhythm from beyond the three-point line. In the win at UC Davis (Dec. 28) the 49ers shot a then season-best .476 (10-21) from long-range. In the win over UCSB the 49ers hit .515 (17-33) of its three's. The 17 made three's tied a school-record. Against Cal Poly they hit at a .474 (9-19) clip. In its last six games the 49ers are 62-149 (.416) from three-point range, hitting double digits in made three's in four of the last six outings (11 at LMU, 10 at UC Davis, 17 vs. UCSB, 10 at CSUN). Overall the 49ers are shooting .341 (122-358) from three-point range on the year. Last year Long Beach connected on .355 (256-721) of its long-range attempts.
ASSISTS VS. TURNOVERS
·More Assists Than TO's in Two Consecutive Games
For the second consecutive game, and the third time in the last four outings, the 49ers had more assists than turnovers in a game. The Beach had 16 assists and 10 turnovers vs. Cal Poly. The previous game vs. UCSB they had a season-high 24 assists to 11 turnovers. Saturday at CS Northridge the 49ers had 15 assists, but 17 turnovers. But, in its last five games the 49ers are averaging 15.8 assists per game compared to 12.2 turnovers. Nine times this year the 49ers have had more turnovers than assists in a game, but that has only occurred twice (Manhattan, at CSUN) in the past seven games.
NIXON GOES FOR 35
·Third 30-Plus Game In 49er Career
Senior Aaron Nixon put up a career-high 35 points vs. UCSB on January 4, his third 30-plus outing as a 49er. Last year at UC Davis (2/25) he scored 33 points and against CS Fullerton in the Big West Tournament quarterfinals he scored 31 points. The 35 point outing tied for 17th-best on the LBSU single game chart. The school-record for points in a game is 45, set by Ed Ratleff vs. Saint Mary's on December 10, 1970.
LIGHTNING DOES STRIKE TWICE
·Nixon Has Two Game-Winners To Credit
49er senior guard Aaron Nixon has proven that lightning can strike twice. Nixon has knocked down two game-winning three-point shots at the buzzer to lift Long Beach State to victories. The first came on March 10, 2006 in the semi-finals of the Big West Tournament as he knocked down a three from the far corner lifting the 49ers to a 75-73 victory. The latest heroics came on December 22, 2006 at Loyola Marymount as he hit a 35-foot shot at the buzzer to lift Long Beach to a 66-65 victory.
WIN STREAK
·Tenth-Best In History
The recent nine-game win streak tied for 10th best in 49er history. The last time the 49ers won nine games in a row was during the 1989-90 campaign under Joe Harrington. The streak ran from Feb. 12 through March 10. The streak ended on March 11 with a 92-74 loss to UNLV in the Big West Tournament. The school-record streak is 19 games set during the 1969-70 season under Jerry Tarkanian.
HOUSTON RANKS NO. 5
·Moves Ahead Of Lucious Harris
Senior point guard Kevin Houston (Highland) has recorded a team-high 71 assists this season and has jumped to the No. 5 spot on the 49er career chart for assists with 355. He moved past Lucious Harris into the number five spot. Currently standing in the No. 4 spot is Ed Ratleff with 410 assists.
MORE ON HOUSTON
·Outstanding Assist-to-Turnover Ratio
Senior guard Kevin Houston had accumulated a team-high 71 assists this season compared to just 43 turnovers. But, in his last seven games he has 34 assists and just 10 turnovers. In the win over UCSB he had seven assists and just one turnover. Houston is currently third in the Big West at 4.44 assists per game and third in assist/turnover ratio at 1.65.
LAST YEAR AGAINST THE TITANS
·49ers Win Three Over Titans
Last year the 49ers went 3-0 against Cal State Fullerton. The first meeting was on Jan. 19 at Fullerton, as the 49ers won 97-96 in overtime. Shawn Hawkins hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to lift the 49ers to the win. Jibril Hodges, who sent the game into overtime with a three at the end of regulation, led the 49ers with 23 points while Hawkins added 18. Jamaal Brown led the Titans with 31 points and Jermaine Harper had 22. On Feb. 15 in Long Beach the 49ers won 88-79 as Hodges tallied 17 points and Hawkins 16. The 49ers shot .531 from the field and were 14-26 from three-point range. Justin Burns led CSUF with 21 points. The final game came on March 9 in the quarterfinals of the Big West Tournament. Long Beach won 94-91 as Aaron Nixon had 31 points and 10 rebounds, including scoring the final five points of the game for the 49ers. Kejuan Johnson added 16 points. Brown led the Titans with 30 points and Frank Robinson added 26 points and 12 rebounds.
LAST YEAR AGAINST THE HIGHLANDERS
·49ers Win Two Over Riverside
Last year the 49ers went 2-0 vs. UCR. On Jan. 21 Long Beach won 82-70 in Riverside as Kejuan Johnson scored 18 points and Aaron Nixon 15. Rickey Porter led the Highlanders with 22 points and Dedrick Bates added 21. The 49ers shot .516 from the field, the Highlanders .333. On March 2 in Long Beach the 49ers won 82-76 in overtime. Six players scored in double digits for Long Beach, led by Shawn Hawkins' 17. Porter led UCR with 21 points. UCR out-scored the 49ers 11-2 in the final four minutes to force overtime, but Hawkins scored eight of his 17 in overtime as the 49ers prevailed.
HOME COOKING
·Beach 6-0 At Home This Year
The 49ers are 6-0 at home this season and have won their last seven games (dating back to last season) at the Walter Pyramid. Long Beach is averaging 82.7 points per game and home while allowing 68.5. Since February of 2005, the 49ers are 20-4 at home. Overall in the Walter Pyramid, Long Beach State is 108-58 (.651). The 100th home win came on February 15, 2006 vs. CS Fullerton.
DOUBLING UP
·Six Players In Double Digits
In the win at UC Davis (12/28) the 49ers had six players hit for double digits, a season-high. Last year the 49ers had one game where they had seven players tally double digits, and that was on February 18 at Manhattan (Hawkins 25, Houston 17, Johnson 16, Hodges 14, Darby 13, Nixon 11, Dawson 10). They had six players hit that mark on March 2 in the home win over UC Riverside. Five times this season the 49ers had four players score in double digits (at CS Northridge, Manhattan, at San Jose State, Pepperdine, vs. San Jose State).

·Eight Strong Outings At The Line
The 49ers have shot a combined .734 (157-214) at the free throw line in its last nine games. They shot a season-best .818 (27-3) in the win over Manhattan and hit .800 (12-15) vs. UCSB on January 4. The 49ers have shot .710 or better in six of its last nine outings. In its first seven games of the year the 49ers were shooting just .586 (82-140) at the line. Now they stand at .675.

·Season-High 9 Blocks at UMBC
The 49ers had a season-high nine blocked shots in the win at UMBC. The nine blocks was three off the school-record of 12 set on December 1, 1998 vs. CS Dominguez Hills. Individually, Mark Dawson had a career-high tying six blocks in the contest. The school-record of seven blocks, was set by Terrance O'Kelley against Nevada on January 10, 1994.
ROAD WINS
·Four True Road Wins This Year
The 57-53 win at Maryland-Baltimore County (Dec. 3) was the first "true" road win for the 49ers this year. They followed that up with a 76-67 win at San Jose State, a 66-65 win at Loyola Marymount, and an 89-75 win at UC Davis. After Saturday's loss at CS Northridge, the 49ers are 4-4 on the road. The 49ers are 1-1 on neutral sites (6-0 at home). Last year the 49ers lost their first six road games before they downed Cal Poly 79-66 on January 9. Long Beach went 8-1 in true road games from January 9 through March 4 of last season, finishing 8-7 on the road and 2-1 at neutral sites (Big West Tournament).
DEFENSIVE STATS
·Opponents Shooting .423 From Field
UC Davis (12/28) was the first 49er opponent this season to shoot .500 or better from the field. The Aggies shot .500 (25-50) overall. Saturday at CS Northridge the Matadors shot .536 (30-56) from the field, the best mark against the 49ers this season. But, overall the 49ers have held six opponents below .400 and three more below .450. In the last 10 games opponents are shooting just .365 (72-198) from long-range and .427 (253-593) overall from the field.
BIG WEST STATS
·Averaging 87.0 Points Per Game
The 49ers are currently 2-1 thus far in the Big West Conference, but offensively the 49ers have put up good numbers. Long Beach is averaging 87.0 points per game in league outings, to rank No. 1 in the league. Individually, Kejuan Johnson and Aaron Nixon rank one and two in the league in scoring in conference games at 21.3 and 21.0 points per game respectively. The 49ers are shooting .461 from the field and .429 (36-84) from three-point range. Kevin Houston is averaging 5.67 assists per game, second in the league.

The 49ers signed three players in the early signing period in November. Signing with The Beach were: Brandon Johnson (F, 6-8, 210, Vancouver, WA, Lamar CC, Mountain View HS), Greg Russell (G, 5-6, 170, Santa Cruz, CA, West Valley JC, Santa Cruz HS) and Bryan Emanuel (G, 6-3, 185, Bellflower, CA, Mayfair HS). Russell led West Valley to a 33-4 mark and an appearance in the State JC Championship Game. He averaged 7.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per outing. Emanuel is a senior at Mayfair High School where he was a first team All-Suburban League selection last season after averaging 11.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Johnson averaged 11.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game at Lamar (CO) CC last season.
