49ers Bounce Aggies in Three Hasalikova Hits .562
September 23, 2006 BOX SCORE DAVIS, CA -- The 25th-ranked Long Beach State women's volleyball team trounced host UC Davis, 3-0, in its final tune-up before opening conference play next week on Saturday night from the Pavilion. Game scores were 30-28, 30-20, 30-24.
Long Beach State moved to 9-3, while Davis fell to 1-12. The 49ers are 4-0 all-time vs. the Aggies, and all four victories have been sweeps.
Alexis Crimes led a trio of 49ers in double-figure scoring with 14 kills on 23 swings (three errors) for a .478 attack percentage. Crimes also added three service aces and three blocks. Mischa Hasalikova posted 11 kills on 16 swings for a .562 hitting percentage, and Quincy Verdin chipped in with 11 kills as well to highlight the top kill leaders. Nicole Vargas missed her seventh double-double of the season, but did record 44 assists and nine digs, while directing the 49er offense to a .314 attack percentage. Iris Murray tallied a team-high 11 digs.
UC Davis could not overcome 20 attack errors and hit just .178 for the match. Britt Erickson led the Aggies with 16 kills in the losing effort.
LBSU had to rally a few times midway thru the first game and then held off Davis at the end, to escape with a 30-28 victory. The Aggies owned a 23-22 lead, before Long Beach State scored two straight points to take a 24-23 lead after a Crimes service ace. Both teams traded points, before the 49ers had game point (29-27) after a Crimes kill. The Aggies had one last gasp and trimmed the lead at 29-28 after a 49er attack error. But a Robin Miramontes kill sealed the game victory.
The 49ers controlled the pace of the second stanza and came away with a 30-20 victory. LBSU jumped out to an 8-3 lead after an Aggie attack error, and increased its lead to 17-9 after another Crimes service ace. Long Beach State owned a 13 point lead (24-11) after another Aggie attack error, and closed out the stanza on a Hasalikova kill.
Long Beach State held UC Davis at bay for much of the third set, and owned a 21-15 advantage after an Aggie attack error, before finally closing out Davis, 30-24, courtesy of another host hitting error.
