49ers Finish 14th At Gene Miranda Invitational
Ryan Wood Finishes Tied For 37th Place

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO-- The Long Beach State men's golf team finished in 14th place at the season-opening Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at the Eisenhower Golf Club Blue Course in Colorado Springs, CO. The 49ers shot a 296 in Sunday's third and final round to finish with a score of 884. Xavier University won the event with a 19-under 845. The Muskateers shot a 273 on Sunday to claim the championship.

"It wasn't a very good performance," said Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "The good news is that it was almost all putting. We are much more familiar with the greens at Virginia Country Club and we're looking forward to bouncing back at our tournament this week."

Leading the way for the 49ers was senior Ryan Wood who shot a four-over 220 (70-74-76). Redshirt freshman Karl Karnik, in his first collegiate tournament, shot a five-over 221 (74-72-75) and true freshman Michael Drake shot a six-over 222 (76-74-72), including an even par 72 on Sunday. The overall individual title went to Xavier's Jason Kokrak who shot a 12-under 204 (70-69-65). Kokrak shot a course record 65 on Sunday to claim the championship. Jared Becher of Nevada finished second with a nine-under 207 (69-66-72).

The 49ers will next be in action on Thursday and Friday of this week as they host the 11th annual Del Walker Intercollegiate at the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach. Fourteen teams will vie for the tournament title, beginning with opening round action on Thursday morning.
