Donovan Morris Transfers From Fresno State
Junior Averaged 9.6 Points In Two Years At FSU
September 1, 2006
LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State Head Men's Basketball Coach Larry Reynolds announced that Donovan Morris (G, 6-4, 205) has transferred to the 49ers from Fresno State. Morris has enrolled, and attended, classes this past week. Morris, who originally hails from San Bernardino, CA and prepped at Cahon High School, will have to sit out the 2006-07 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
"I have watched Donovan play for a number of years," said Reynolds. "He is from Cajon High School in San Bernardino, and one thing he could always do was score the basketball. He also has a good sense of the game and is a very good passer. A proven scorer at this level, he will definitely push our guards in practice. He also has the luxury of learning the system this year and then stepping in to fill some of the points that will be graduating at years end."
As a sophomore last year at Fresno State, Morris averaged 7.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting .439 from the field and .392 (40-102) from three-point range. He led the squad with his .867 (26-30) free throw percentage. As a freshman in the 2004-05 season he started 24 times, averaging 11.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He scored in double figures 19 times and shot an impressive .425 (62-146) from three-point range. This three-point field goal percentage was tops in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) that season. In the final WAC stats he led the league in three-point percentage, was fourth in three-pointers made per game (2.14) and was 20th in scoring (11.7). Morris also excelled in the classroom as he was a Fresno State and WAC Scholar-Athlete.
As a prep at Cahon High School, Morris was a four-time all-league selection and was the league and county MVP his senior year after averaging 27 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists per game. He left Cajon as the school's all-time points leader, amassing over 2,000 career points. He attended Winchendon Prep in Massachusetts for one year after graduation from Cajon HS.
