49ers Stuff Blue Raiders LINCOLN, NE -- The Long Beach State women's volleyball team rebounded from a loss to Oregon on Wednesday night with a 3-1 win over Middle Tennessee State on Friday in the first day of the Husker Labor Day Invitational from the Husker Coliseum. Game scores were 30-25, 26-30, 30-24, 30-26. Long Beach State improved to 4-1, while Middle Tennessee State fell to 3-1. Alexis Crimes paced The Beach with 17 kills on 27 attempts for a .481 attack percentage. Crimes also added seven blocks. Mischa Hasalikova chipped in with 10 kills and a career-high nine blocks, while Nicole Vargas registered her first double-double of the season with 40 assists and a season-high 12 digs. Vargas also netted a career-high eight blocks. Sarah Hudson registered a season-high 10 digs, and Iris Murray posted a career-best 17 digs. Ashley Adams led the Blue Raiders with 17 kills in the losing effort. Neither team hit well for the match, but Long Beach State did out-block MTSU, 19-13. The 49ers overcame a .121 attack percentage to capture a 30-25 game one victory. Middle Tennessee State grabbed a 13-7 lead after a Victoria Monasterolo kill, before LBSU rallied to cut the deficit to 16-14 after a Hasalikova kill. The 49ers took the lead at 19-18 after a Blue Raider service error, before the game was tied at 20 after a Quanshell Scott kill. LBSU then took advantage of a pair of MTSU attack errors to build a 27-24 lead, and closed out the game on another Blue Raider attack error. Hasalikova netted four kills in the stanza for Long Beach State. Middle Tennessee State responded in the second frame and squared the match at 1-1 after a 30-26 victory. Hitting woes continued to hurt Long Beach State, as it mustered a .122 clip in the stanza. The 49ers did trim the deficit to 10-8, before MTSU built a 21-14 lead after a service error. Long Beach State made one last final surge and cut the lead to 29-26 after a Quincy Verdin kill, before an Ashley Asberry kill ended the set. The 49ers had a tightly contested battle in game three, but pulled away late with a 10-4 run to take the 30-24 victory. A Hasalikova kill unlocked a 22-22 tie and an MTSU attack error pushed the LB lead to 24-22. Consecutive Blue Raider attack errors and a Vargas service ace put the 49ers up 29-23, which was followed by a Crimes kill to give LBSU a 2-1 advantage in the match. Long Beach State had to rally from four points down midway thru the fourth game to take command late and the 30-26 victory. LBSU faces St. Mary's tomorrow at 3 p.m. (PDT), before facing No. 1-ranked Nebraska on Sunday at noon.
