49ers Picked to Win Big West Title IRVINE, CA-- Let the momentum begin. After a season of first's in 2005, Long Beach State women's soccer begins the 2006 campaign as the pre-season favorite to win the Big West Conference, according to the conference's coaches. It is the first time in school-history the team is favored to win the conference. Long Beach State received three first place votes, as the 49ers return all 11 starters and are coming off its best season in school-history, at 12-5-3, which included the franchise's first-ever regular season top-25 ranking, first-ever nationally recognized players and first-ever Big West Tournament playoff appearance. The team currently is in double days at George Allen Field, as it prepares for its season opener against Oregon on August 25. The Beach are currently selling a six-game season ticket package for $30 and will host its third annual Golden Goal Fundraiser on August 18.
