49ers Ranked No. 28 to Start the Year NEW YORK CITY, NY-- Long Beach State women's soccer is ranked No. 28 in Soccer Buzz's pre-season national poll and No. 9 in the West Region, both first's for the program, which was picked to win the Big West this season by the conference's coaches and the online publication. Last year, the 49ers were ranked No. 25 for two weeks in October, the franchise's first appearance in the national polls in school-history. The 49ers return all 11 starters to a team that finished the season 12-5-3 last season and appeared in the Big West Tournament for the first time in school-history. The team is currently in double days as it prepares for a scrimmage with Azusa Pacific on August 19 and its season opener at Oregon on August 25. LBSU will also host its third annual Golden Goal Fundraiser on August 18, teamed with Mariachi music as part of a Mexican Fiesta to kick off the season.
