49ers Sign Tim Island
San Diego Prep Star Signs Financial Aid Agreement
July 17, 2006
LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State Head Men's Basketball Coach Larry Reynolds announced today that Tim Island (Freshman, Guard, 6-6, 200, San Diego, CA, University City HS) signed a Financial Aid Agreement with the 49ers.
"Tim will be a good addition to the program," said Reynolds. "He has the ability to shoot the basketball, which will work well in our offense. He should be an outstanding player in our program for four years."
As a senior at University City High School in 2004-05, Island averged 22.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game while shooting an impressive .580 from the field and .440 from three-point range. Island was a first team CIF Division II selection as a senior, as well as earning third team All-CIF and first team All-Western League honors. A team captain, Island led the Centurians to a 17-7 mark as University advanced to the semifinals of the San Diego Section Division II playoffs in 2005. A three-year letterwinner, Island was named his team's Most Outstanding Player. As a junior, he earned first team All-Western League and second team CIF Division II honors and was the MVP at the 2004 Hilltop Tournament. A recipient of the UC Booster's Scholar/Athlete Award in high school, Island was also a two-time member of the San Diego Union Tribune All-Academic Team (3.0 cumulative gpa and above). Island was also voted into the San Diego Hall of Champions by the local San Diego media.
Island spent the 2005-06 year at the Redemption Academy Prep School in Troy, NY and will be a true freshman this fall at Long Beach State.
