Longoria Earns First All-America Award FULL COLLEGIATE BASEBALL ALL-AMERICA TEAM TUCSON, AZ-- Long Beach State third baseman Evan Longoria (Downey), expected to be one of the top players picked in tomorrow's Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, was named a third team All-American by Collegiate Baseball. The co-Big West Player of the Year batted .353 this season with 11 home runs and 43 RBIs and batted .336 with 16 home runs and 73 RBIs in two seasons at The Beach after transferring from Rio Hondo Junior College. He is the first conference player of the year from Long Beach State since Bobby Crosby in 2001. Crosby was also a third team All-American by Collegiate Baseball that year. Should Longoria go in the first round this week, it will mark the sixth-straight year a Dirtbag has been drafted in the first two rounds. Two of the three highest draft picks have come over the previous two drafts, current Angel starter Jered Weaver, with the 12th overall selection in 2004 and Troy Tulowitzki, with the seventh overall pick of the Rockies, last season. Crosby, the former American League Rookie of the Year, was the 25th overall pick in 2001. Kyle Abbott, previously held the record for LBSU players with the ninth overall selection by the Angels in 1989. Longoria, along with righthanded starters Andrew Carpenter and Jared Hughes, are expected to go early in the 2006 draft for Long Beach State.
