Former Dirtbags Named All-Stars LONG BEACH, CA-- About a half dozen former Long Beach State Dirtbags were named All-Stars this month, including three to this week's California-Carolina Single-A All-Star Game. Cesar Ramos pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the June 27 All-Star Game and then maybe for the first time in their careers, Brian Anderson, the Dirtbags long-time setup man, relieved teammate Neil Jamison, the Dirtbags former closer. Anderson currently leads the California League in saves, as one of four former Dirtbags at Single-A San Jose, while Jamison ranks second, joining Ramos at Single-A Lake Elsinore. The California League can add another member to its mix when 2006 first round pick, Evan Longoria, joins Visalia, after batting .417 with four homers and 11 RBIs for Hudson Valley. Angels minor leaguer Jered Weaver was named to the Pacific Coast League's All-Star Team as part of the Triple-A All-Star Game on July 12 on ESPN2 at 4 p.m. Pacific. Weaver already has 10 wins this season, four with the Angels and a 6-1 record and 2.10 ERA for Salt Lake City. Another former closer, Carlos Muniz was part of the East Squad in the Florida State Single-A All-Star Game on June 17, pitching for the Mets Single-A affiliate. Troy Tulowitzki will take part in two All-Star Games this summer. Tulowitzki was part of the North All-Stars in the Texas League Game on June 20, and will be a part of the Futures Game in Pittsburgh prior to the Major League All-Star Game on July 9, live on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. Pacific. Yankees first baseman Jason Giambi, currently ranks second amongst American League first baseman in MLB's Major League voting, as one of 13 former players in the Big Leagues this season.
