Dirtbags Tearing Up Various Summer League's LONG BEACH, CA-- If previous summers are any indication of future success, Long Beach State's baseball players are again prospering in various summer leagues. Shortstop Danny Espinosa, one of three players in the Cape Cod League, is following in the footsteps of first round pick and Cape Cod League MVP Evan Longoria, ranking fifth in the league in batting (.385), while scoring eight runs for Chatham. Andre Lamontagne, one of four players playing in Alaska, has yet to allow an earned run in 12 innings of work, striking out 10 and producing a .209 opponent batting average for the Peninsula Oilers. Lamontagne's battery mate, Kip Masuda, has thrown out four of nine base runners. Andrew Liebel, pitching for the Bucs, has an 0.68 ERA in eight appearances. Over in Fairfax in the Clark Griffith League, redshirts Russ Lowell (1.64 ERA in eight appearances) and Hunter Hewitt (3.38 ERA in five games, three starts) are both solid on the mound. Closer to home, catcher Brian Capon is batting .333 for the Palm Springs Power, while teammate Bryan Shaw is 1-0 with four saves with an 0.00 ERA in five appearances.
