Dirtbags Sent Out for the Summer LONG BEACH, CA-- The annual start of summer has the Long Beach State baseball team headed throughout the country to play summer ball. Much like last year when Evan Longoria and Jared Hughes made names for themselves in the Cape, the Dirtbags will send three more players to the New England region in Big West Freshman of the Year Danny Espinosa, freshman righthander Vance Worley (both with Chatham) and first baseman Brandon Godfrey (Yarmouth-Dennis). Another prestigious league is the Alaska League, which will feature freshmen righthander Andre Lamontagne and catcher Kip Masuda playing for the Peninsula Oilers and pitchers Andrew Leibel and Shane Peterson playing for the Anchorage Bucs. The Northwoods League in the Midwest will feature Ted Pattock and AJ Pinocchio playing for Eau Claire, while the Clark Griffith League out of Virginia will feature freshmen redshirts Hunter Hewitt and Russ Lowell playing for Fairfax. Most of the teams mentioned, outside the Cape, will play for a chance to make the 2006 National Baseball Congress World Series, July 28th through August 12th in Wichita, KS.
