Carpenter Earns Fourth Weekly Honor IRVINE, CA-- Long Beach State righthander Andrew Carpenter (Vacaville) became the first conference pitcher since National Player of the Year Jered Weaver in 2004 to be named Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week four times in one season, after earning the honor for his six-hit shutout at Cal Poly last weekend. Carpenter struck out eight and walked one,and used just 28 pitches over his final three innings of work, to even the series, in an eventual series clincher for Long Beach State (25-20-1). Carpenter enters the week 7-2 with a 2.81 ERA and surpassed CS Fullerton's Wes Roemer, who has won the honor three times this season. Carpenter now has five complete games on the season, the most by a 49er hurler since Marcus Jones in 1997. His four weekly honors this season ties him with Cesar Ramos and Jones for second-most in an LBSU career. Weaver holds the conference record with 12. |
