Wilkinson Earns NGCA Award Senior honored with Kim Moore Spirit Award May 31, 2006
LONG BEACH, CA-- Hayley Wilkinson (Bundaberg, Australia) was honored with the NCAA Division I Kim Moore Spirit Award as announced by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). This award, which is dedicated to Kim Moore who played golf for the University of Indianapolis (1999-2003), recognizes and honors a student-athlete who exemplifies a great spirit toward the game of golf, has a positive attitude, and demonstrates mental toughness in facing challenges. Wilkinson was diagnosed with colon cancer in mid-April, one week prior to the Big West Conference Championships.
Wilkinson competed in eight tournaments this year for the 49ers. She had a season best second place finish at the Fresno State Invitational, with a 143 (74-69). She was a first team All-Big West selection in 2006, and helped lead LBSU to its first NCAA Regional appearance in school history. The 49ers finished in second place at the Big West Championships, but she was unable to compete at the Championships due to her diagnosis.
A three-time all-conference honoree, Wilkinson was selected as LBSU's Female Big West Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2006. She has been a 49er Academic All-Star five times and was a 2003 Academic All-American Scholar as named by the NGCA.
