Carter Named Athlete of the Week IRVINE, CA-- Senior Ronald Carter (Gardena) became the third 49er to earn Big West Field Athlete of the Week honors, earning the accolade following a win at the Stanford Invitational in the triple jump. Carter's mark of 51'5.75", which is fourth nationally to teammate and national leader John Temidara (51'7"), put the former walk-on into seventh place in the all-time record books at Long Beach State. Carter is already a regional qualifier and looks to return to his second-straight NCAA Championship. He finished sixth at the 2005 Regionals with a then-personal-best of 50'11". The 49ers have earned at least one field athlete of the week in three of the first five weeks the award has been given out. Kim Heinz (javelin) and Temidara are the previous two recipients. The 49ers travel to the Big West Challenge on Saturday, hosted by UC Irvine. |
