49ers Finish 16th At U.S. Intercollegiate Wood Ties For 18th Place April 16, 2006 STANFORD, CA-- The Long Beach State men's golf team finished in 16th place at the U.S. Intercollegiate by The Maple Fund at the Stanford University Golf Course. Sunday's final round was cancelled due to severe weather. The 49ers shot a 612 (303-309) in Saturday's two rounds. UCLA won the team title with a 578 and USC came in second at 579.
Individually, Ryan Wood tied for 18th place overall with a seven-over 147 (73-74). Ryan Panichpakdee tied for 46th with a 152 (72-80) and Brett Lederer tied for 63rd with a 155 (78-77). The overall individual winner was Stanford's Rob Grube who shot a five-under 135 (71-64).
"We are very disappointed to lose yet another event to rain," said Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "Obviously anything could have happened today, but we had gotten off to a really good start to the final round (four players were at par or better through four holes in a steady rain) and had already caught some of the teams ahead of us when the round was cancelled. We fell we must now win the Big West Championship in order to qualify for the playoffs. Our chances of receiving an at-large bid is now pretty remote."
The 49ers will next be in action on April 24-25 at the Big West Conference Championships at the Tijeras Creek Golf Course in Mission Viejo. | TEAM SCORES | 1ST | 2ND | TOTAL | | 1.
