Hodges, Hawkins, Johnson Earn Honors Hodges Selected First Team March 6, 2006 IRVINE, CA--Three Long Beach State men's basketball players earned all-conference honors on Monday by the Big West Conference. Senior Jibril Hodges was selected first team all-league after being selected honorable mention last season. Shawn Hawkins and Kejuan Johnson both were named second team all-league. Pacific's Christian Maraker was selected as the conference Player of the Year, while the Tigers' Bob Thomason was named the Coach of the Year.
Hodges leads the 49ers in scoring at 14.5 points per game. He has hit double digits in scoring 20 times this season, including a 27-point outburst at Cal State Northridge. He is one of just 15 players to reach 1,000 career points and he currently stands at No. 9 all-time with 1,211 career points. Hodges has already gone down as the best three-point shooter in school history. He ranks No. 1 at LBSU and No. 6 in Big West Conference history with 244 made three-pointers.
Hawkins has had an oustanding season, averaging 12.5 points and a team-high 6.2 rebounds per game. He scored a career-best 25 points in the 49ers win at Manhattan and had accumulated three double-double's this season. Johnson made quite an impact in his first year at LBSU, averaging 11.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He also has the best three-point field goal percentage on the team having hit .468 (29-62) of his three-point attempts.
The three all-conference performers are the most for the 49ers since the 1999-00 season when Mate Milisa was a first team all-league pick, as well as being named the Player of the Year, and Rudy Williams and Rock Lloyd earned second team accolades.
