49ers Fall to Arizona
TUCSON, AZ -- The Long Beach State softball team finished in second place after falling 11-0 in the championship game to the No. 1-ranked Arizona Wildcats in the final day of the Hillenbrand Invitational on Sunday. Long Beach State fell to 10-9 on the season, while Arizona improved to 20-1. Michelle Turner (7-5) suffered the loss after giving up 11 runs on 11 hits. Arizona unlocked a scoreless tie when Callista Balko's three-run home run in the third inning helped to a seven-run inning. The Wildcats added four more runs in the fourth inning, two courtesy of a Chelsie Mesa two-run home run, before the game was called in the fifth inning. The 49ers return home to take on Virgina on Wednesday, Mar. 8 at 3 pm from the 49er Softball Complex. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
