49ers Lose a Respectable 3-0 to U-20 National Team CARSON, CA-- Long Beach State women's soccer lost a respectable 3-0 to the U.S. Women's Under-20 National Team on Monday in a spring exhibition game at the Home Depot Center complex. Freshman All-American Jessica Rostedt from the University of Virginia scored two goals for Team USA, which had converted on two of five first half shots, but just one of 10 second half tallies. LBSU goalie Liz Ramos made five saves in net, including two at point blank range in the second half. "After they scored the first goal (in the fourth minute), it kind of took the steam out of us," said Head Coach Mauricio Ingrassia of his 49ers. "I thought we had a good second half. We only held them to a single goal and we kept our shape. We were also able to get off a couple of chances at the end. Whenever you play competition like this, it's good for our program." LBSU had three shots on goal, including a missed header in the 89th minute by Rachel Whiteaker. In the 21st minute, LBSU tried to cut the deficit in half when Freshman All-American Hayley Bolt passed it ahead to newcomer Kristin Childers. In the 23rd minute, the 49ers tried again, this time with Katelyn Quaresma sending it ahead to Sahar Haghdan. Both times the group of college all-stars stole it away. UCLA's Danesha Adams put the U.S. on the board in the first half converting a penalty kick in the fourth minute. Rostedt then made it 2-0 in the 18th minute on a fastbreak goal to the right of center about 15 yards out. Rostedt finished the scoring in the 58th minute by taking a cross from the center and scoring from the right side. The Under-20 National Team was made up of current college all-stars, invited to participate in a one week camp at the U.S. Soccer Training Center at the Home Depot Center in Carson. The team will compete at the World Championships this summer. The 49ers played without All-Big West performers Natalie Messina and Kim Silos, who were both recovering from post-season injuries. |
