Beach Split Classic with Cornell

49er Men, Cornell Women Split Classic LONG BEACH, CA-- The 49er track and field team split with Cornell University at the Long Beach Classic on Saturday, with the two programs splitting the two team titles and the 49ers taking the men's title and CU taking the women's title. For the 49ers, they had seven wins on the men's side and five on the women, as The Beach swept through all the male field events, except for the pole vault, while the 49er women won in the 4x100, 200-meter, shot, discus and javelin. John Temidara posted NCAA Regional marks in the high and triple jumps, taking both individual titles, while Ronald Carter had an NCAA regional mark in the triple jump, finishing second to Temidara. David Sampson posted a regional mark in the shot put, while Robert Jennings had a regional standard in the hammer. Tyler McCoy and Kim Heinz made it a clean sweep of the javelin. Chris Richardson posted strong numbers in a number of events, as the 49er hepathlete won the long jump, had a sub-15.00 time in the 110-meter hurld, was second in the javelin and threw 140' in the discus. On the women's side, Jasmine Winfield won the 200-meter with a time of 24.28, while Kristina Price (shot put) and Katelyn Ciarelli (discus) won their respective events. The 49ers are next in action when they travel to USC Invitational, featuring top programs like the Trojans, Washington State and Oregon, as Head Coach Andy Sythe put it, "We had great competition for this first meet and it was a great meet to build on for next week at USC." |
