49ers to Host 65th Jack Rose Relays Saturday LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State track and field will open up its outdoor season with the 65th Annual Jack Rose Relays on the campus of Long Beach State on Saturday. Field events will start at 8 a.m. with track events beginning at 10 a.m. Results will be available at ezmeets.com and on the Long Beach State website. It will be the first of three meets hosted by the 49ers this season. The 49ers are coming off an impressive indoor season as they await word on their six national indoor qualifying marks for the NCAA Championships, which should be announced on March 6. The 49ers had three All-MPSF performances in Robert Jennings (weight throw) and John Temidara (high jump and triple jump) and set 13 school records during the indoor season. Charles Lewis had an impressive winter, as the sophomore posted the school's fastest 60-meter (6.90aa) and 200-meter (21.47) and had the second fastest 400-meter time. Temdiara has the second-best high jump (7'2.25") and triple jump (51'3.75") all-time and is the 49ers best shot at reaching nationals for the third-straight time. Ronald Carter, a former walk-on, had an NCAA qualifying and school-record setting mark in the triple jump (51'6.25") and has the fourth-best long jump in school-history. Heptathlete Chris Richardson posted top-10 marks in the high and long jumps during his first winter at The Beach. The men's throws program re-wrote the indoor record book. Led by Robert Jennings' 62'2.25" mark in the weight (No. 2 all-time), five 49ers ranked in the top-10 in that event and four other marks were in the top-10 in the indoor shot put. The women's sprints program features an impressive group of runners for the outdoor seasons, as five of the top-10 indoor 200-meter marks and three of the top-10 indoor 60-meter and 400-meter times are from the current group. Jimmy Grabow and Ludi Valdez each set the indoor school-records in 3000 and 5000-meter races this seasons, while Jaclyn Pedersen also posted the school's fastest mile. The distance program has seen the top-three marks in the 3000 and 5000-meter re-written over the past two seasons. |
