Lewis Shines at NAU Indoor

Lewis, Sprints Teams Highlight NAU Invite FLAGSTAFF, AZ-- Sophomore Charles Lewis won the 200 and 400-meter dashes and was a part of the winning 4x400-meter relay team to highlight Long Beach State at the Northern Arizona Indoor on Saturday afternoon. Lewis ran a personal-best 47.31 in the 400m, and won the 200m with a time of 21.70. The 4x400-meter relay team ran 3:19.13, while Ronald Carter was the other 49er to win on Saturday with a win in the triple jump. "It was a good start to the season, as far as where we are at right now," said assistant coach Yvonne Scott-Williams, who is directly responsible for the sprints program. "On the sprints, we have a lot of returning athletes and their improvement from this time last year is very good. I'm pleased with Charles to start the indoor season and I'm looking forward to seeing him lead the men's team this year." Jessica Branker was the top collegiate in the 60-meter dash, running a personal-best 7.59, while the 49ers swept the second through fifth spots in the 200m, led again by Branker, ran 24.82. The quartet of 49ers were the fastest collegians in that race. Following Carter in the triple jump, Robert Nelson was third. Ezra Kwong was fourth in the shot put, while Robert Jennings was fourth inthe weight throw. On the women's side, Kristina Price was sixth in the shot put, while Katelyn Ciarelli was sixth in the shot put. |
