49ers Set School Record, Finish In 2nd Place
Beach Shoots A 284 In Tuesday's Second Round

FRESNO, CA-- The Long Beach State women's golf team kicked off its spring season on a high note by finishing in second place at the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational at the Copper River Country Club. The 49ers shot a school-record 284 in Tuesday's second, and final, round of competition. The previous record was a 291 which was set at the 2005 Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic.

Long Beach finished nine shots off the pace of tournament champion UC Irvine, which shot an impressive 571 (285-286). The 49ers finished 19 shots ahead of third place New Mexico State (596).

The two-day score of 580 also represents a new school-record for the 49ers breaking the old mark of 589 (291-298) set at the 2005 Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic. The second place finish is just the sixth in school history. The last runner-up finish came at the 2005 Big West Conference Championships.

Individually, senior Hayley Wilkinson shot a three-under 69 on Tuesday and finished in second place overall with a one-under 143 (74-69). Kay Hoey also shot a 69 on Tuesday and finished tied for third place with a one-over 145 (76-69). Josefine Lindbergh shot a 146 (74-72) and finished tied for sixth, giving LBSU three players in the top 10. The overall individual title went to UC Irvine's Selanee Henderson who shot a seven-under 137 (67-70).

The 49ers will next be in action on March 13-14 when they compete at the UNLV Spring Invitational in Las Vegas, NV.
