Ingrassia Inks Second Recruiting Class LONG BEACH, CA-- Mauricio Ingrassia's second season of recruiting features one Soccerbuzz.com Top-50 recruit, five All-CIF picks and the 2004 NSCAA/adidas Junior College National Player of the Year. LBSU, which had the 15th-best recruiting class nationally last season, welcome aboard Yeraldy Hurtado (Ventura/Buena HS), a member of the U-17 National Team and a top-50 recruit, All-CIF first teamer Chantel Hubbard (Torrance/North Torrance HS), two-time All- CIF pick Tara Corcoran (LaVerne/Bonita HS) and two San Diego natives, Sarah Strohl (San Diego/Patrick Henry HS), and Nicole Myers (San Diego/Marian Catholic HS), who has 120 goals and counting in her prep career. Forward Kristin Childers (Bellflower/Poly HS/LBCC), the 2004 National Junior College Player of the Year, enrolled in school last month. The previous five all signed national letters of intent. "I'm excited about this class. For the first time I can address specific needs," said Ingrassia, whose team completed a school-best 12-5-3 mark in 2005. "We have a national team recruit for the second straight year, and we also have a couple of other players being looked at for our national team program. This is huge for Long Beach State Women's Soccer at this point in time." Hurtado, a teammate of current midfielder Sara Baca at Buena High, was the CIF Divison-II Offensive Player of the Year and was named to the 2005 NSCAA Youth All-America team. She was twice named the Channel League Offensive MVP and was a two-time first team All-CIF selection. The midfielder was also a member of the U.S. U-17 National program. "Yeraldy is an exciting player to watch. She has flair and great technical ability. Her speed will help us stretch people out." Corcoran could be the team's sleeper pick, as she was named a third and second team All-CIF selection out of Bonita High. "Tara Corcoran comes with the highest recommendation from her club coach Carlos Juarez, former WUSA head coach of the San Diego Spirit. She has all the tools to be a great defender." Myers, a forward out of Marian Catholic High, was named first team All-CIF and was named the Outstanding Offense Player of the Year three times. Her 118 goals entering 2005 was fifth all-time in San Diego prep history. She was named the South Bay League Player of the Year in 2005 and was a three-time all-league selection. She was also a part of the Cal South ODP pool. "Nikki scores goals. Plain and simple. If she can step up to the next level, she will get minutes right away." Chantel Hubbard, a prep star out of North Torrance High, was named first team All-CIF. "Chantel is a very fit and physical marking back. She will contend for playing time right away." Strohl, who carries a 3.88 GPA as well at Patrick Henry High, was a first team all-league selection as a junior, following second team honors as a sophomore and honorable mention accolades as a freshman. The second team All-CIF defender helped her team to the CIF Finals in 2005. The 6-1 player is the team's captain this season. "Sarah could be the steal of this class. She has good size and a good feel for the game. She is a perfect role fit for what we need." Childers is already enrolled at Long Beach State after finishing up her associate's degree at Long Beach City College in the fall. The forward was a two-time first team All-American and two-time South Coast Conference Player of the Year. In 2004 she was named the Junior College National Player of the Year after leading the Vikings back to the State Final Four, finishing with 17 goals and 42 points. In her two year career, she scored 54 goals, second all-time at LBCC, and tallied 127 points. In 2003, she led the Vikings to the No. 1 national ranking and a state title, under Ingrassia. LBCC went a combined 44-0-1 in her two seasons. "Kristin is the type of player that comes through in the clutch on the offensive end. I've seen her do some amazing things through the years. She's working very hard to regain her form, and if she does, look out. Her contagious spirit and leadership will ignite us on the offensive end." |
