49ers Re-Open Athletics Director Search LONG BEACH, CA-- California State University, Long Beach has reopened its search for an athletics director and has contracted with Carr Sports Associates, Inc., to serve as consultants to the process. "While we had a good search process and good candidates in the last round, we ultimately were not able to arrive at a consensus that resulted in hiring a new A.D., so we're back to the drawing board," said Douglas Robinson, search committee chair and CSULB vice president for Student Services. "The good news is that we have an excellent interim director in Cindy Masner, so Long Beach State's program is in good hands while we continue the process of appointing a permanent athletic director," Robinson said. Carr Sports Associates, Inc., was established by Bill Carr III in 1997. Carr served as athletics director at the University of Houston and the University of Florida, his alma mater, where he was an All-America and All-Southeastern Conference center. He played in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints. Carr also has served as the executive director of the Center Foundation of Clearwater, FL, vice president of Raycom Management Group, Inc., and President of Sports Resources Group, Inc., of Charlotte, NC. Universities that Carr Sports Associates, Inc., has assisted with athletic executive searches have included the University of Texas, North Carolina State University, University of Virginia, Washington State University, Iowa State University, Utah State University, Southeast Louisiana State University, University of North Carolina, University of Tennessee, University of Maryland, University of Toledo, Auburn University and Montana State. CSULB's process will continue with the existing search committee working with Carr Sports Associates. Carr will meet with the committee in the near future, Robinson said. The former Long Beach State athletics director, Bill Shumard, resigned last summer to take the position of president and chief executive officer of the Special Olympics of Southern California. |
