Dirtbags Can't Complete Series Win at Cal BERKELEY, CA-- Tyson Ross (1-0) was masterful against No. 12-ranked Long Beach State (4-2), striking out a career-best nine and giving up just one run on six hits, as host California (3-4) won the rubber game 4-1 at Evans Diamond. The Dirtbags left eight runners on and twice hit into inning ending double plays in the second and sixth innings with the bases loaded. Five consecutive hits by the Bears gave them the lead in the third, as a solo homer by Jordan Karnofsky tied it at 1-1, before four more hits gave Cal a 3-1 advantage. Brennan Boesch hit his third homer of the season in the sixth to give Cal a 4-1 lead, as he went 3-for-3 for the day. LBSU got on the board in the first, as Robert Perry scored on a wild pitch, after reaching first with an infield second and moving around the bases on a single and double steal attempt. Dirtbag starter Vance Worley (0-1) lasted six innings, giving up four runs on nine hits. The Dirtbags travel to Pepperdine on Valentine's Day for a game at 2 p.m., before heading to Houston, as part of Rice's Coca Cola Classic starting on Friday against Lamar. |
