49ers Excel at Two Locations FLAGSTAFF, AZ/SEATTLE, WA-- Long Beach State track and field had a strong showing on Saturday, as Charles Lewis and the throws program had good performances at the Northern Arizona Indoor Quadragular, while the distance program saw seven top-five times in Seattle as part of the Husky Indoor Invitational. The 49ers had four 49ers thorw over 52' in the shot put. "We knew going in we had a dominate throws group in the eight-team Big West, but they are now making a statement in the MPSF," said Head Coach Andy Sythe. "Charles Lewis is having a phenomenal winter and is really being pushed by guys like David Holley and Austin Fowler." Among other top performers at Northern Arizona, David Sampson was second to Kwong in the shot put (55'1.5"), as part of a quartet in the top-five, while Armond Goodin won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.29aa. Chris Richardson had a personal-best in the high jump to finish second (6'0.75") and also had a lifetime-best in the 60m hurdles finishing third with a time of 8.49aa. On the women's side, Jessica Branker won the 60m (7.63aa), while Charlene Deardorff was second (7.69). Deardorff was again second in the 200m with a personal-best (25.04), while Jasmine Winfield was third in the 400m (57.90). Jill Reynolds won the pole vault as well, while Kristina Price (shot put) and Katelyn Ciarelli (weight) were both second. Patrice White, participating in her first ever long jump, just missed first place by 4.5 inches, settling for third (17'5"). Back in the Emerald City, Kramon was 19th overall, followed by Valdez' 24th place showing, while Jaclyn Pedersen set a personal-best with a time of 4:58.53 for third all-time in the mile. Mario Cobian debuted for the 49ers with a time of 1:52.62 for third-best all-time in the 800m, while Miller and Christina Wilson (10:13) both had personal-best bests in the 3000m. "There were some really great races from the likes of Pedersen, Miller and Wilson," said Distance Coach Matt Roe. "Cobian also had a strong debut. This was a great meet and we had some excellent performances, but we can run better at MPSFs." |
