49ers Head to Flagstaff for NAU Invitational LONG BEACH, CA-- The Long Beach State track and field team, after a successful opening at New Mexico last weekend, will travel to Northern Arizona in Flagstaff for the team's first full indoor meet of the season. Following this week's rankings in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Ronald Carter's school-record in the triple jump (51'6.25") and Chris Richardson's long jump (43'6") are both atop the conference rankings. Carter's jump is also sixth-best in the country. This weekend will also be the first time the team's sprints team is back in action, after a strong 2005 campaign, in which the women closed out the season being named all-region in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays in the final meets of the year. The full augment of sprinters will be attendance including two-time all-conference sophomore Charles Lewis (200m and 400m), and all-conference runners Jessica Branker (200m), Jasmine Winfield (400m) and Charlene Deardorff (100m), all earned their awards during the outdoor season. The meet will also showcase talented newcomers Miranda Garrido and Armond Goodin for the first time. Some of the team's top throwers will also head East in Ed Cornell, who was a bronze medallist at the junior Pan American Games in the discus during the summer and David Sampson, Andrew Julius and Ezra Kwong who each have two of the top-10 indoor throws in the weight and shot put. Jill Reynolds just missed out on her season-best in the indoor pole vault last week by a quarter of an inch and still ranks third all-time in the indoor event.
