THE RECORDS
·49ers Home For Two Games
Long Beach State is 3-4 overall after splitting two games last weekend on the East Coast. The 49ers fell at Temple and then rebounded with a 57-53 win at Maryland-Baltimore County. The win snapped a three-game 49er losing skid. Pepperdine is 2-6 on the year after a 90-74 loss at Oklahoma State and a 78-72 win at Colorado on Monday. Sacramento State is 4-5 on the year after a 99-69 loss at Louisville. The Hornets host Pacific on Wednesday evening.
THE COACH

Larry Reynolds (UC Riverside, 1976) is 42-79 (.347) in his fifth year as the head coach at Long Beach State. Overall, Reynolds is 152-114 (.571) in his ninth year as a collegiate head coach.

The 49ers trail in their all-time series with Pepperdine by a 15-5 count. The Waves have won eight consecutive games from the 49ers, including a 92-86 win at Pepperdine last season. The last LBSU win was on December 11, 1986, an 86-77 triumph at Malibu. The 49ers are 3-8 all-time at home against the Waves. Sacramento State leads its series with the 49ers by a 6-4 margin. The Hornets won last years game in Sacramento, 106-94. On Nov. 27, 2004 the 49ers defeated CSUS at home 87-63.
TOY DRIVE ON SATURDAY
·Bring A New, Unwrapped Toy
Saturday night will be the annual 6th Man Boosters/49er Men's Basketball Toy Drive. Anyone who brings a new, unwrapped toy to the December 9 game vs. Sacramento State will receive a free general admission ticket to the 7 pm game. The toys will be distributed on Friday, December 15 by the 49er men's basketball team and coaching staff at Miller Children's Hospital in Long Beach.
49ERS EARN A SPLIT
·Nixon Scores 23 in Win at UMBC
The 49ers split two games on the East Coast as they defeated UMBC on Sunday, 57-53. Aaron Nixon scored a season-high 23 points, 19 in the second half, to lift the 49ers to victory. Mark Dawson had a season-high 11 points and added a career-high tying six blocked shots. The 49ers blocked a season-high nine shots against the Retrievers. The 49ers had a season-low 11 turnovers and 12 fouls and shot .400 (20-50) from the field. On Saturday the 49ers lost at Temple 74-49. Sterling Byrd led Long Beach with 12 points and seven rebounds. Long Beach scored a season-low 49 points and shot a season-worst .243 (17-70) from the field. The 49ers did out-rebound the Owls by a 48-45 count, including grabbing a season-high 24 offensive boards. Travon Free added a season-best six points and six rebounds.
49ERS FALL AT NO. 1 UCLA
·Byrd Posts 15 Points and 16 Rebounds
UCLA used a 15-0 run to open the second half en route to an 88-58 win over the 49ers on Tuesday evening at Pauley Pavilion. The 49ers trailed 41-36 at the half, thanks to a 16-7 run over the final 5:20 of the half. Sterling Byrd had 15 points and a career-high 16 rebounds and Aaron Nixon added 12 points. Kevin Houston had seven assists to go along with his four points. Josh Shipp led UCLA with a career-high 24 points. UCLA was 13-26 from three-point range, but just 15-24 at the free throw line. The 49ers shot .365 (23-63) from the field, but out-rebounded the taller Bruins 45-38. Long Beach had 17 offensive rebounds.
PEPPERDINE FACTS
·Win at Colorado on Monday
Pepperdine is 2-6 on the year after winning at Colorado on Monday evening, 78-72. Last Saturday Pepperdine lost at Oklahoma State, 90-74. Against Colorado, Chase Griffin had 18 points and Marvin Lea 17 to lead the Waves. Pepperdine forced 21 turnovers while hitting 13-33 (.394) of its three-point attempts. Against Oklahoma State Lea led the Waves with 20 points and Griffin added 18. On the year, Lea leads the team at 17.4 points per game. Injured Jason Walberg and Griffin are second at 14.0 . The Waves are averaging 79.6 points per game and have taken 234 three-point shots (an average of 29.25 per game). Opponents are averaging 84.9 points per game.
SACRAMENTO STATE FACTS
·Hornets Fall At Louisville
Sacramento State is 4-5 on the year after a 99-69 loss at Louisville on Saturday. Alex Bausley led the Hornets with 20 points and nine rebounds in that contest. On the year, Loren Leath leads the squad in scoring at 17.0 points per game. Bausley is next at 15.1 and he is second in rebounding as well at 6.4 boards per outing. Haron Hargrave checks in at 13.8 points per game. The Hornets are averaging 78.4 points per game while opponents are averaging 78.9 while shooting .502 from the field.
THE BEACH ON TV
·Next TV Game On Jan. 18 vs. CS Fullerton
The 49ers will be on television a total of seven times during the regular season, with the opportunity of five more telecasts making the airwaves. The next televised game will be on Thursday, January 18 when the 49ers host CS Fullerton on KVMD. The game will be televised live on FSN Prime Ticket. Long Beach is currently 1-0 on TV this year.

·150 Games And Counting
The 49ers have connected on at least on three-pointer in every game Larry Reynolds has coached at Long Beach State (121 games). The 49ers have hit at least one three-pointer in 150 consecutive games, dating back to the 2001-02 season. The last time Long Beach State didn't hit a three in a game was in the 2001-02 season opener against Western Michigan (11/15/01) where The Beach was 0-9. Last year the 49ers finished 21st in the nation averaging 8.53 made three's per game. Their 256 three's in 2005-06 were a new school record, shattering the old mark of 200.

·Defense Forcing Turnovers
The 49ers are forcing an average of 16.7 turnovers per game through their first seven outings. In its opener, the 49ers forced 19 Air Force miscues, the next night they forced 22 against San Jose State. In the win over CS Bakersfield they forced 24 and at USC the Trojans had 19 miscues. The 49ers are also averaging7.1 steals per game, garnering a season-high 12 steals vs. CS Bakersfield. On the opposite end, the 49ers are averaging 16.6 turnovers per game.
HOUSTON RANKS NO. 9
·He Passes Rasul Salahuddin
Senior point guard Kevin Houston (Highland) has recorded a team-high 30 assists this season and has jumped to the No. 9 spot on the 49er career chart for assists with 314. He needs three more to move past Dale Dillon into the number eight spot.
SHOOTING WOES
·49ers Shooting Just .362 From Field
The 49ers have struggled from the field thus far as they are shooting a combined .362 overall and .250 from three-point range. Last year Long Beach shot .456 overall from the field and .355 from long-range. After shooting a season-best .453 (34-75) in the win over San Jose State, the 49ers are a combined 105-319 (.329) from the field in its last five outings. In the loss at Temple the 49ers shot a season-worst .243 (17-70). Sunday at UMBC the 49ers shot .400 (20-50) from the field, its best showing in five games.
LAST YEAR VS. PEPPERDINE
·Waves Prevailed 92-86
Last year the 49ers lost at Pepperdine by a 92-86 count. Tashaan Forehan-Kelly led the way with 23 points and 10 rebounds and Michael Gerrity added 21 points and six assists. Jibril Hodges led LBSU with 18 points while Kevin Houston and Kejuan Johnson each added 17. Pepperdine shot .522 (35-67) from the field while Long Beach shot .462 (30-65). The 49ers hurt themselves with 19 turnovers. Mark Dawson had a strong outing with eight points and nine rebounds.
LAST YEAR VS. THE HORNETS
·Hornets Won 106-94
Sacramento State defeated the 49ers 106-94 last year in Sacramento. Five players hit double digits, led by Jason Harris' 25 points and 19 from Haron Hargrave. Jazz Henderson led the 49ers with 23 points and Aaron Nixon and Dominique Ricks each had 18. Ricks also had 10 rebounds. Sacramento State shot .507 (38-75) from the field and were 25-32 at the free throw line. Long Beach was 10-27 from three-point range and were out-rebounded 46-37.
SECOND HALF DEFENSE
·Allowed Just 61 Points On Eastern Swing
The 49ers have turned up the defensive pressure in the second half in its last two games. The 49ers allowed 31 points in the second half to Temple and then came back with allowing just 30 points to UMBC, a season-low.
JOHNSON RETURN
·Being Evaluated On Monday
Senior guard Kejuan Johnson, who has missed the last three games due to a broken nose suffered on November 22, will be visiting a doctor on Monday (Dec. 4) to see if he will be given clearance to return to practice. Johnson was averaging 8.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in his first four games of the season.
BLOCK PARTY
·Season-High 9 Blocks at UMBC
The 49ers had a season-high nine blocked shots in Sunday's win at UMBC. The nine blocks was three off the school-record of 12 set on December 1, 1998 vs. CS Dominguez Hills. Individually, Mark Dawson had a career-high tying six blocks in the contest. The school-record of seven blocks, was set by Terrance O'Kelley against Nevada on January 10, 1994. Dawson currently has nine blocks this season and 45 in his career. He needs just 12 more blocks to tie Travis Reed for No. 10 on the 49er career chart with 57 blocks.
OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
·Averaging 64.6 Points Per Game
The 49ers offensive output is down from last season's 83.3 points per game. The 49ers currently stand at 64.6 points per outing. In its last four games the 49ers have averaged just 56.25 points per game. All four of those games have been on the road coming against USC, UCLA, Temple and UMBC.
HOME SWEET HOME
·Two Home Games This Week
After playing six of its first seven games on the road, the 49ers are home this week for two games against Pepperdine and Sacramento State. Last year the 49ers had three home games in their first seven outings. The last time Long Beach State faced such a streak to open the season was in the 1985-86 campaign when its first 14 games were away from home.
ROAD WIN
·First True Road Win This Year
Sunday's 57-53 win at Maryland-Baltimore County was the first "true" road win for the 49ers this year, improving their mark to 1-3. The 49ers are 1-1 on neutral sites. Last year the 49ers lost their first six road games before they downed Cal Poly 79-66 on January 9. Long Beach went 8-1 in true road games from January 9 through March 4 of last season, finishing 8-7 on the road and 2-1 at neutral sites (Big West Tournament). The eight road wins were the most in a single season for Larry Reynolds, who has just two true road wins (plus one neutral site win) in his first three years at The Beach.
