49ers Fall after Hot Start
MALIBU, CA-- Long Beach State (1-10) looked like they might be ready to turn the corner, controlling the game for the first nine minutes of the game, before Pepperdine (7-4) went on a 17-3 first half run and ran away with a 69-42 win over the 49ers on Saturday afternoon. Karina Figueroa scored a season-high 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting, but Daphanie Kennedy led the Waves with 17 points as one of three players in double figures. Pepperdine shot 46 percent for the contest, while LBSU hit just 35 percent of its shots.Pepperdine allowed just seven points over the final 11 minutes of the first half, leading 36-19 at halftime after the 49ers controlled the game for the first nine minutes of the game. The Waves used a 30-7 to close the half, shooting 52 percent. LBSU shot just 29 percent. Figureroa had a hot start, hitting five of her first six shots for a quick 10 points as the 49ers led for the first nine minutes of the contest at 12-6. Pepperdine then used a 17-3 run to lead 23-15 with five minutes left forcing a 49er timeout following a Alisha Bryant offensive putback. The 49ers return to action on December 18 when they host Army for a game at the Walter Pyramid at 7 p.m. The game begins a three-game homestand to close out 2006, as The Beach hosts UC Davis on December 28 and Fairfield on December 30. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
