Perry Named to Initial Wallace Award Watch List LUBOCK, TX-- Long Beach State senior outfielder Robert Perry (Sunnyvale) was named to the initial watch list for the Wallace Award, given out to the nation's top player by the College Baseball Foundation, which also runs the College Baseball Hall of Fame. Perry is now a player to watch for 2007. A starting outfielder all three seasons, two at Santa Clara and the last for the Dirtbags, has twice been named all-conference, earning honorable mention honors as a freshman in the West Coast Conference, and earning second team honors last year in the Big West. He missed half of his sophomore year with a thumb injury playing for the Broncos appearing in just 32 games while batting .324. Perry is a career .309 hitter in three Division-I seasons, batting .309 last year with 43 runs and 33 RBIs. Primarily as his team's leadoff hitter, Perry has scored over 100 runs in his career and has 31 career doubles and 16 home runs. The Dirtbags open the season at USC on February 2 and host their annual Leadoff Weekend in late January, featuring keynote speaker Jered Weaver at the annual Leadoff Dinner on January 25. |
