49ers Announce Three Signees
November 21, 2006
LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State Head Women's Golf Coach Sue Ewart announced
three signees in the early signing period. Kylie Kimura (Covina, CA/Charter
Oak HS), Lindsey McAtee (Poway, CA/Poway HS) and Reina Rogers (Oxnard,
CA/Oxnard HS) will all be freshman next fall at Long Beach State.
"We are very excited to have Lindsey, Reina, and Kylie aboard for
next year," said Ewart. "All three are dedicated and determined
to succeed at the next level and have the athletic and academic ability
to be future All American’s. These three individuals should provide
a solid platform for the next few years. I’m looking forward to
their continued success here at Long Beach State."
Kimura has competed in Southern California for the past few years where
she has shown her capacity to post solid scores against highly competitive
fields. Her first two years of high school were spent competing for Mark
Keppel High School before transferring to Charter Oak, where she competed
as an individual this fall. Kimura posted several solid rounds to advance
to the CIF Regional Championship where she finished in the top third of
the field. She was a two-time first team all-league selection at Keppel
HS and shot a 79 at the 2004 CIF State Championships. She helped lead
Keppel to the 2003 Miramonte League title and third place finishes are
regionals and state. In 2004 he prep team won the league title, finished
third at regionals and second at state. Kimura tied for fifth place at
the 2004 State Championships as an individual.
McAtee recently competed on the State Champion high school team of the
Poway Titans. Lindsey is one of those gifted athletes that decided to
“focus her energy on a sport that can’t be beat, but only
played.” Considered one of the premier “under the radar”
recruits, McAtee is multi-talented, athletic, and highly-competitive.
She has been ranked in the top 10 in San Diego for the past two years.
She was chosen to represent San Diego at Junior America’s Cup in
Tucson this past summer. McAtee helped lead Poway to three Palomar League
Championships and back-to-back San Diego CIF Section Championships (2005,
2006). She was a first team All-CIF selectioin in 2006 and finished 11th
in the state while leading Palomar to the California State Championship.
McAtee also lettered in basketball, helping lead her team to a league
title while leading the team in scoring, steals, rebounds and blocked
shots.
Rogers is another very talented athlete that has shown “sparks of
brilliance” throughout her junior golf career. Rogers has a very
fluid swing, a nice touch around the greens, and her length off the tee
is impressive. She has shown early success in breaking par, which is a
credit to her course management. Rogers lettered four years in golf and
was a four-time All-Pacific View League selection and a three-time all-county
pick. She was selected as the 2004 Ventura County Player of the Year and
the VCJGA Player of the Year. A four-time team MVP, Rogers was the league
champion and league MVP in 2004 and 2006.
