Ramos Named Player of the Week Following Shutouts IRVINE, CA-- Long Beach State goalkeeper Liz Ramos (Bakersfield) was named the Big West's co-Player of the Week with CS Fullerton defender Erica Janke, following an undefeated weekend in the Central Coast this past weekend. The 49ers, in first place in the Big West at 3-0-1 and a point in front of the Titans, won at UC Santa Barbara 1-0 on Friday for the first time since 2000 and tied Cal Poly 0-0 in double overtime on Sunday. It was the team's first undefeated trek through the Central Coast rivals since 2000 as Ramos made four of her seven saves in overtime at Cal Poly. The 49ers also returned to the top-25 rankings this week, ranking No. 23 in Soccer America. The 49ers were ranked for a month in Soccer Buzz's national poll, dropping out two weeks ago. The 49ers return home on Wednesday to face off against Fresno State at 3 p.m. The all-time leader in shutouts with 20 over two seasons, Ramos has 9.5 shutouts this season as the 49ers are just one shutout away from tying the school-record set last year for scoreless matches (11). Ramos with an 0.37 goals against average, continues to rank nationally in that category, ranking as high as No. 3 this season. |
